stalker crashing issues

hi there
i have been given stalker by a friend as i have a better setup than him and he couldnt get it to run

after installing it on my pc [spec in sig]
i had no problem getting it running on high settings [max was a bit jerky]

it keps crashing out once i get out in the open though
i have heard that this is a recurring issue with many people

i have tried running it on minimum settings and it still crashes [even when the game looks like a bad ps1 conversion]

has anybody else had this problem?
is my hardware to blame?
any advise would be greatly appreciated
 
First thing..

Have you update your video drivers..?

Installed latest game patches?

The game only crashed on one occassion with all lastest drivers and patches. I installed the float32 patch to sort this out.:)

all patches and drivers for all hardware are up to date
that was the first thing i checked
 
Do you have the dual core optimizer installed?

My only suggestion is to uninstall the video driver, run driver cleaner (clean the CAB cleanner whilst your are there) and re-install the driver.

Are other games ok?
 
yeah i have already done a driver clean
reinstalled everything the long way round
and im still getting the same reaction

i have no trouble with games like cs:s, hl2, lostplanet [dx9] etc
 
It's an awsome game but it's spoilt by it's flaws unfortunately. This is due to to it's DX8 roots and the time it took to develop the thing. If you're on the latest patch (V. 1.0004) and latest Catalyst drivers then it should be ok.

Does the game crash or do you get BSOD?
