Stalker ending?

I just finished Stalker : Shadow of Chernobyl a couple of days ago, and thought it was a FANTASTIC game.

However, I thought the way it ended was poor and abrupt. I made my wish at that teleporter thing assuming there was at least two more large sections of the game to complete the story. But, it just ended right there and the credits rolled.

I thought the whole point of the story was to do with locating Strelock? I never came across Ghost or Strelock, and have no idea why the game ended where it did.

also, I was using the FN2000 rifle since I found it about 2/3rds through the game. However in that last bit where you kill the last few stalkers and mutants, one of them dropped an FN2000 which had a different texture model and had a higher accuracy rating, but the weapon condition was low so it couldn;t be used as it would jam. Seeing as that is the last bit of the game, why was that weapon there as it wasn't useable without fixing by a trader?

There are a few different endings, one of which lets you keep on playing.
Before you ask I don't remember how, its been a while. Have a google to see what you need to do for the different endings.

Yeah, unfortunately you missed a big part of the main storyline and got one of several fairly rubbish endings. The rubbish endings are based on how you played the game - e.g. whether you went after getting loads of money, or had a bad reputation etc.

The good ending involves following the Strelok storyline and opens up another level (in fact arguably the best level) after the sarcophagus.

You got a "false" ending. As mentioned, make sure you follow the main quest properly to ensure you get the "true" ending.

It's definately worth trying again to get the real ending by the way - it adds another chunk to the game and explains quite a lot.

You need to follow the quests on your PDA, I made the same mistake as you twice over and ended up with the same ending twice. If you follow the quests through your PDA the story will change dramatically and you'll be able to access the proper ending.

I did follow the quests to the letter. I only didn't go back for the reward of a couple of side quests. That's pretty annoying. Would it get me back on track if I simply exit the sarcophagus area, and back track? Could I then fill in the things I maybe should have done?

****spoiler'ish*** Just had a quick look around to remind myself (bored while i wait for X3 to download) You need to find the secret room in the NPP, and its part of the missions you get from the "guide".

Yes. As long as you did all the storyline quests then you are still in a position to find the real ending. Look for a side passage in the corridor that leads to the sarcophagus area.
