STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.

hhmmm played 6 hours without complete, then i installed it, didn't feel the same. uninstalled but majority of stalker community recommend it! the accuracy was 300% better :S

i say play it vanilla first time, if you don't like it, mod it and you may start to like it. i came form metro 2033 and it's got the same amazing atmosphere but even better. i say playing metro 2033 gave you the idea's of what the zone atmosphere would be like. i reconise the sounds from metro 2033 in SOC

Play vanilla first time round, then try the complete mod.

While the mod is an overall improvement, it changes the original feeling of the game quite drastically.

Once patched to 1.005 then yes, I'd recommend the 'Complete' mod as Warbie suggested. That's the most suitable to try out first imo. Other mods that I have tried are 'Oblivion Lost' and two different versions of the 'Lurk' mod. The most graphically 'pretty' with all the lighting effects imo is Lurk 1.1, Oblivion Lost on the other hand I felt maybe added slightly more replay value than the others. It just felt a bit more random, and the hit detection made it feel much more like a regular shooter. Some say that O/L is not as good graphically as the Complete mod, both look about the same to me, though it has been a while since I've played Complete.

The Complete mod - I didn't enjoy Stalker untill playing it with this.

+1

A brilliant overhaul of the game, really worthwhile. The autoinstaller is such a blessing. No messing about just install it.

Give medals to the people behind this and other mods.

complete mod doesn't change accuracy

It's a gfx and bug fix mod.

I tried my second play through of Clear Sky the other day this time using the complete mod. I hit a few game breaking bugs and gave up in Cordan. Still i had a lot of fun using the ESC+F1 spawning thing.

Sadly i would have had to start again to fix the bugs and i couldnt be bothered. I got lucky with my first run through before the mod was released, didnt hit any bugs at all or maybe it was the mod that created them.

If you want to be prepaired for the bugs, save, save and save.

The guys in the 'elevator' do not spawn. So no briefcase.

Got a bug in the swamps where the Clear sky guys wouldnt come reinforce the area in the top right of the map. Solved this by killing off Clear sky in the other bases (spawning monsters), they respawned and everything started again.

That would've ruined it for me. There was nothing like being given a crap pistol and having less than half a chance of hitting what you were trying to kill with it, and runnning away instead. For a good few hours in the beginning, you really feel as though everything is out to kill you, and you have zero chance of survival. Adds to the bleakness of the whole thing for me TBH.
