Hi all, purchased STALKER on day of release (Well Pre-ordered it) and was unable to play it on my main, or second PC. That is to say my PC Can run it, but it just crashes to desktop after a few seconds of play every single time, with the odd rebooting of my system. Now I tried the first and second patch when they came out and nothing. So with the release of 1.00006 I thought I would give it a whirl, but no still CTD every time I try to play.

So that means it wont run on either of my PC's (Same Issue) and it wont run after formating, or installing new drivers....

Main PC:

AMD X2 4800+
Asus Socket939 Mobo
2GB PC3200 DDR
ATI X1950XTX 512MB

Second PC:

AMD X2 3800+
DFI Socket939 Mobo
1GB PC400 DDR
ATI X1900XT 512MB

Please help me play this game.

Thanks ;)

I don't know what to make of that. The only things common to both PC setups are the AMD X2 chip and the ATI graphics card. I don't know much about the ATI cards as I've always used Nvidia but maybe there's an issue with these cards? It may also be worth telling the game to just use one CPU as the X2 chip is dual core. It runs fine on dual core Intel chips but there may be an issue with dual core AMD chips. Just a thought and something to try. Good luck. Stalker is a real treat of a game, especially with some of the mods available for it.

What OS are you using?

I have a similiar system to your first one (except with an 4400+ and X1900XT 512mb) and Stalker runs pretty much perfectly on it, with every patch thats come out so far.

Not sure about Vista, but with XP you should definitely install the AMD dual-core optimiser and also the XP multi-core hotfix. Of course, make sure you have the latest service packs and updates installed for windows and the latest drivers for your hardware.

I'm currently using the 7.9 and it works fine on them, have yet to try new drivers though.

That said, if your computer rebooting while trying to play the game, then it may point to some sort of hardware problem (maybe the something is overheating or is unstable).

Agreed - that *Sounds* like the dual-core optimizer problem, make sure thats installed.
Also, if you have a normal copy of XP kicking about try that on one system, I've run Stalker on single and dual core AMD chips, as well as ATi and Nvidia cards so cant see a problem....

Really should try a few mods out actually - keep meaning to! Maybe time for a new start....

I have a X2 CPU and have never had a CTD but I have a Nvidia 8800GTS.

Have you tried running without Full Dynamic lighting to see if that helps stability?

Yes, doing so gave me about 5 mins of play, then went straight back to CTDing every time I try to play... Sigh Also where would I get these optimisers from? Have got all the latest Windows Updates...
