Recently found this again which was bundled with my old mobo. Is it worth another shot again? I tried playing it before but couldnt really get into it.

yea, it's really a marmite game. personally i love it and really got sucked into it, there a few good mods out there for it too.

If it's your first play; I'd recommend STALKER Complete. Fixes bugs, adjusts gameplay, yet doesn't mess around with the core game play too much.

I would highly recommend getting the STALKER Complete 2009 Mod.

It has fixed a ton of bugs, as well as adding some new visual effects, but keeps the same atmosphere from the vanilla.

Absolutely get the Stalker Complete 2009 mod.
It is the only mod you need really.

Really enjoyed my second playthrough with the 'Oblivion Lost' mod, though it does make some big changes. For a first playthrough definately go with Stalker Complete.

SMM is handy if you plan on playing the game with mods according to your preference; not needed for a first run through with Complete Mod, though.

Another vote for complete mod. Looks almost like Clear Sky, but without the huge performance drop.

I enjoyed it but really damn creepy and gave me the willies more than a couple of times.

Pretty it runs like mud on my system even though it should chew it up. Clear Sky runs even worse.

I only just played it a while ago for the first time with that complete 2009 mod, i liked it even though it has its problems but still a fun game.

I bought it and played it one night. hated the way people interacted.

hate the way the game feels with weapons. crouch etc is too annoying. sub standard imo
