Stalling in games

Hi, i've had a problem for a while now that when playing WoW it will randomly stall for 5 seconds or so, music will loop a second repeatedly and has lead to unwanted deaths.

A friend running Warhammer Mark of Chaos has the same problem so i thought i'd ask here and see if anyone had any ideas.

I've got a 3700, 1gb ram, 7800GT and a 74gb raptor
He's got 3200, 2gb ram, x850xt (i think) and a 250gb samsung spinpoint.

Any ideas?

I've had similar problems, but it crashes my pc almost every time (does it on my laptop without crashing though). I've not found a cause yet

. Have you noticed if it does it more when you've got high latency or in situations where you'd expect lag (ie Orgrimmar, IF)?

Gah, hate it when people log me off my OCUK.

Doesn't seem to have any influence on my latency, i.e. middle of western plaguelands when TBC came out and it was empty of people.

Only thing i can think of is CPU power but thats just a guess

I've had instances of this where the game will kinda freeze up but still be running in the background.

I'm fairly certain it's GPU related and on older cards (AGP 6800 series) can often be fixed by disabling fast writes. Other possible causes I believe are gfx card overheating, sometimes due to excessive clocks.

I have same cpu as you and run wow at 1680 x 1050 windowed. It's also fine at 1920x1200. The only freezes I get are caused by lag. RAM is very important in wow, adding more has improved the performance for a lot of people I know.

Will test the warhammer game on my PC tonight to see what it runs like

Port forwarding my solve the issue as well.

I like most others have had the game lag out on me, but cant ever remember have the sound loop problem you mentioned. It may be worth posting on blizzards forums if it continues. So many players that some others must have the same troubles as you!
