Stance on competitors?

The rules never changed apparently, we were never allowed to mention competitors...

I must have dreamt those few months when we were.

Yes it has, no mentioning of anyone who sells anything, ever.

Yeah I think I had that dream too. Must have been the cheese I ate.

Perhaps we could offer some suggestions about how to resolve this ongoing issue.

What about just linking to best deals rather than saying names of suppliers. e.g. linking direct to HotUKDeals, Gamestracker etc - they don't sell games.

Or, set up a google doc for us to all share where we can list all the best deals/prices without having to post competitor links here on the forum.

There was defo a post which formed part of the sticky just under a year ago which allowed talk of shops provided they weren't direct competitors, ie Supermarkets and places which don't have computing as their core business.

However I too noticed the increased number of posts by people referring directly to games/console only companies.

It's probably best just to have no mention of competitors to stop all the confusion. That said, I won't buy games from OCUK, as already pointed out, they just aren't competitive with their prices. It's also quite easy to find decent game prices due to the various deal sharing sites, if OCUK were competitive, I'd buy from them. Infact, does anyone buy games from OCUK? Or is it more that they stock them in their physical store, so people might pick one up if nearby, but they list them on the website anyways? Perhaps something they should look into, as I'm sure they would sell really well if they were at good prices.

I would assume without being told that if I am posting on a shops web site, they they pay for that

1) I should never say anythign against them
2) talk about the competition at all
3) **** of any of their products or pricing...

the only grey area I can see confusing people would be slaggin of the competition which may get the shop into trouble so it should be avoided (in my mind)

Instead of a ban all competitors just post a sticky with who we can mention, and in what way we can mention them.

It is a difficult thing to police because where do you draw the line. Mentioning the name of the shop/site or linking to it? Do you warn people for hinting to a site? I haven't been here long but enough people post up things like " awell known auction site" or similar which makes it very obvious who is on about.

+1 on the list idea though it isn't feasible really due to the amount of companies there are.

Then you risk breaking urls that accidentally get caught by the filter.

Example.. S****horpe is starred by the swear filter etc.
