hi all, hope someone can help...

ive recently expanded my pc set up from a single desktop set up to a wi-fi desktop-laptop combo, the desktop upstairs as the gaming rig, with a mediocre laptop downstairs as an overpriced jukebox, streaming from the hard drives upstairs.

ive been into home audio for some years and have a few spare high quality speakers laying around which i want to use as instead of an all in one active pc sound system, but im stuggeling to find a small form factor amp, ive considered using a cheap hi-fi amp but they are quite big 'N' ugly and im after somthing a bit more subtle to go with my minimalist interior.

heres the speakers...

ive done a likkle bit of googling but i can only find active pc sound systems or big ugly hi-fi amps....any ideas????

any advice greatly appreciated

Hi-fi amps are big because they contain large transformers. Large transformers basically mean the amplifier can handle a higher current, and thus be louder with equivalent speakers, as well as having headroom for transients in the music etc.

cheers,

you pretty much confirmed my suspision, no real soloution exists...
its suprising considering that theres lots of decent cheap and stylish solutions in the form of in-car entertainment, with good performance considering the size of the amp coils.

im tempted to experiment with a car-audio amp by modding the power supply with an AC/DC converter...hmmm

Well the issue is there, that the power supply to the amp is already DC. This is why home amplifiers require large transformers to turn the AC in your home to DC that it can use.

You can use a AC/DC converter, but you really wouldn't save any space, i'd imagine.

space and price lol, just looked up some converters, and wow, anything thats reasonable is silly expensive and even more butt-ugly
lol...think ill just have to find a regular hi-fi amp
