Hi all. If I am going to be away from the pc for 30 mins or more (but not finished for the day) I usually let my monitor (crt) go into standby mode. However recently it has stopped switching off. I need to do a reboot before the monitor will switch off to standby. The exact same processes are running both before and after reboot. I have added no new software recently other than av updates. There are no open programs running, and the screen saver will come on fine, so there is nothing interrupting that. I am running windows xp. Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas ? Thanks....

I have my monitor set to go into standby after a couple of minutes. Always have. A while back, I put a 6600GT into my machine (first time I'd ever used an Nvidia card in it), and before long I had exactly the same problem as you Bullet.
I eventually went back to ATI and the prob stopped.
Gotta be down to the Nvid drivers in my totally noobie and inexperienced op.

Mine goes into standby after 30 mins and its fine, always has been on an nvidia card.

You checked your standby settings to make sure an application hasnt disabled it? DVD players sometimes disable standby and screensaver settings so they dont interrupt your movie.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's an ATI card (X850xt) and the settings are fine. A reboot cures all, even thought there still is exactly the same processes running as before the reboot. Also what is puzzling is that the screen saver works fine - nothing is interrupting that. A frustrating one :( . Maybe it's time for a format....
