Star Citizen native VR support.

I've never played this but played quite a lot of Elite, how do they compare? I don't necessarily mean the VR versions, I mean just the game itself.

The only thing they really have in common is that there's space and spaceships. Completely different games trying to do different things.

@Ravenger Kinda, but it runs better than you might think. Not amazingly well or anything.

Might as well post what I wrote in the SC thread regarding VR.

It runs surprisingly well tbh. Ship stuff and general running around is fine.
If you have any reasonable experience with VR - especially with stuff like UEVR, you'll be used to the slight drop in resolution and texture quality here and there. The immersion and scale etc usually makes up for it, as it does here.

Issues:
- No radar in cockpit
- Markers (navigation/hangars etc) are kind of fixed about 2 feet away and can be annoying and obstructive
- FPS weapon placement is bad and needs work
- Inventory is in a narrow window and definitely needs work, although it is technically usable
- FSR (I think it's FSR3) sucks. We need FSR4, although CIG TSR is pretty decent. I imagine DLSS 4 will work well for NV guys.

Ship combat is cool, aside from the missing radar.
Ship HUD and MFD's are very usable, as is the menu/mobiglass.

Using dual sticks is properly immersive if you know your mappings well.

All in all, a very promising start.
I didn't take note of FPS numbers (too scared to look), but I was generally fine with how it felt. It'll chug a bit at the usual places.

7700X/9070XT/32GB Quest 3 on Virtual Desktop - AV1/Ultra
Ingame default all very high with CIG TSR at quality.

To add to that after having played a bit more, I'd say a 9070XT/4080/5080 is pretty much the minimum you'd want to run with. It'll still bog down in demanding areas and there are times when it'll chug for a brief period before sorting itself out, though that may not be down to the GPU.

Hmmm... last time I played this it ran terribly, can't see it working at all well in VR and sadly I'm in no position to upgrade currently, not that I should really need to with a 5800x and 4090, it definitely didn't like my CPU though.

Yeah, the 5800x will unfortunately be a bottleneck. SC is very CPU bound as you probably know.

Anyway, I did a bit more fiddling with settings and I think I've found a decent compromise for smoother play and less aliasing on my setup at least.

VD streaming at Godlike and 20% sharpening
CIG TSR - balanced
Clouds low
View distance medium/high

Flying and walking around chug spots like Babbage/18/Lorville was a hell of a lot smoother and more 'solid' looking. Obviously not as crisp as a monitor, but you know not to expect that anyway :D Yes, low clouds look crap. Do what you gotta do...

Ones a full game, the other is an alpha test with a mentally unstable fanbase (all games have a % of that, just never seen one quite as bad as SC).

That is the most accurate post I've ever seen from you. Love it.

Come on mate allow it. You can post and poke fun at the actual game in the official game discussion thread. Not here. Keep this thread tidy and about VR itself for this game.

I get shouted out in there! Though appreciate the 'tone' of text doesn't always translate well at all. Noted though :)
