Star War Galaxies - worth trying?

in a word: no.

its all come to pieces and SWG is nothing but an empty shell of its former self, and to think it was my first mmo expierence :(

edit: oh and i started playing EVE a week or so ago during my time off, its not too bad but big learning curve

No.

Very tough subject to bring to this forum :P

tbh , AOC or get a singleplayer (COD4) save ya £10 per month

I like many other ex SWG players remember the days of pre CU and NGE (updates), when SWG shone so very very brightly.

It went supernova long ago and barely emits any light now.

Save your cash. If you like Star Wars, there is the rumblings of a Knights of the old republic MMO in a few years.

Try WoW or EVE, however be warned that I fouind EVE to be really pretty boring due to the fact that I have no mates playing it.

I find that's the case with all MMO's really, if I have no real life friends playing it I get bored extremely quickly. It must all be about the competition for me :D

SWG was good once, the crafing was probably the best of any game and has yet to be beaten, unfortunatly they wrecked the game overnight with some very bad decisions.

despite it still having a few features yet to be topped by any other game, namely crafting and city building, everything else is now a big steaming turd and to this day still brings a tear to former players who spent many a month immersed in the star wars universe :(

i curse the day LA thought they could make SWG "better" and used SOE as its scapegoat (which i believe justified the reason why SOE HATE working with other peoples IP)

the CU i was happy with, big changes but still the same swg with a fresh coat of paint if you will...the nge, possibly up there as one of the dumbest gaming decisions ever

It is indeed a shadow of its former self. I too played SWG as my first MMO, over 5 years ago when it still had depth, when you had a large variety of professions to choose from and it still had its magic.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what exactly happened to SWG that killed it for you guys?

I want to know this as well. I've never played SWG but I find it hard to understand how a game can go from being so good to being so bad overnight.

What exactly happened? What did Sony do?
