SOE have integrated a nice, new GCW [Galactic Civil War] system for the players to participate in, here's a link to the guides to get an idea of what the new system has to offer.

I would also like to say, the FPS cap has been increased from 30 to 60 FPS.

Just a note; If you dislike SWG because of the changes they created, mainly NGE, then fair enough but keep that to yourself please.

I stopped at CU time, I believe my Master Doc/Rifleman has had her skills totally reset - not sure about equipment and credits though. SOE send me a couple of emails every year with free play time. I suppose I have to see what's happened before SW:TOR release.

its nice to see that the devs that are still assigned to this project seem to have the enthusiasm expected from a dev team in an mmos prime. its just unfortunate that they are having to make the most of a flawed system. if stuff like this was implemented in the CU days, chances are SWG would still be a thriving, competitive mmo.

(i know you asked "nge haters" to butt out, but unfortunately for most the NGE was and still is a huge negative that pretty much overrides any well thought out and innovative game mechanics that they have/will introduce till the project is terminated)

I know, i agree with you 100%.

This is far more interesting ;)

I know, i've played it briefly.

I logged into SWG again a few months back and went to visit our old city of Neo Rome on the eclipse server, was absolutely gutted to see all but a few houses gone, logged out and couldnt bare to go back!

jesus what's server pop like these days on chimera ???

Im guessing all my Buildings and Harvesters fell down a good few years ago :O

Most likely, there was a house pack-up day that let players 'destroy' buildings that are labelled as abandoned (Houses standing for well over a year). They get put back in your datapad once they're destroyed, un-harmed.

I've recently returned to SWG with a few friends and were enjoying it once more.

I admit its not the game it was pre-NGE or even pre-CU, but its now quite a decent MMO. Especially as it just oozes Star Wars atmosphere.

Returned back to EU-Chim, population is decent and the GCW seems to be quite active and in full swing. We opted to start new accounts and level from scratch rather than trying to understand how a class plays at max level and its paying dividends as you get a much better feel for your class if you level them.

Looking forward to joining the new city based sieges and stuff.

A brief google seems to show it as an open source community project? Is that not just essentially a mod? Or is it illegal in some way? Are we talking breach of licence stuff?
People - including me no doubt have tried to talk about it only to be told off :(

I always have that thought about returning to SWG but everytime I try it again on a demo or such I get disappointed because I remember how good it was Pre-CU and how much it has changed :(

i went back for a look a few times i never lasted long, it just brough back the hate inside me.

the space combat was where it all went sour imo, it cleared out the ground combat and thinned out the player base into space= less to do, no point logging into an empty server.

i think my bro logged into his old server to find the server had been deleted/merged with another.

/cry

all honnesty now, is this game actually worth paying for becuase its a lot of money i dont want to lose if its not a good game

Honestly? Nope. Not because of the type of game it is now, but because it was designed from the ground up as a different type of game completely, and then ripped apart and put back together as a wow-alike. You just can't do that to something as complex as an mmo without breaking it.

Now you have a level based game with mega boring quests and acres of wide open planets with absolutely nothing on them. The only thing it still has going for it is the open world house placement, but that only works when you've got a community to do it with.

Some bits of the game work better than others - the two ground based expansions work fairly well, as they were designed to be a linear experience. And since you can start as a jedi, they're sodding everywhere :(
