As said it was great at the start, so much you could do. The economy/crafting was very diverse compared to most mmos. Unfortunately it was totally trashed a few years ago. Surprised its still going tbh.

It used to have 30+ professions due to using a complex skill tree system, now it's just levels and classes.
Totally ruined.
I was upset enough at the first changes (called the CU or Combat Upgrade), but I managed to get over it and come back to playing it. The developers were still sane at that point. The second big change -called the New Game Enhancements (or NGE) - is rumoured to have been rushed into release to compete with WoW. There were many potential customers that simply found it too complex (it was ruddy complex...), they saw the WoW market and wanted a piece of the pie. When the NGE kicked in whole cities emptied, what was once a bustling spaceport where people would spam all day at each other and look for groups was now completey silent. It literally felt like I was the only person in the game.
The worst thing about that is that player houses remain in the game forever, walking through the abandoned player cities is really sad, all the shops totally empty

Thats a shame. I had a period of time where I became completely disconnected from gaming and it appears this has been & gone in said time.
Would be nice to see some revival of an online RPG based in the starwars universe- there is a lot of potential I think - or is this now irretrievable following the apparent collapse of SWG?

The game is different to what is used to be, no doubt about it. It has had a couple of years of bug fixes though and it seems pretty good fun again but not up to its former glory. I keep going back to it from time to time though.
Can't really talk about it here - it's of questionable legality.

I loved the original for about 2 months, it was the first MMO i played, i have fond memories of playing with a friend i lost, visiting r2d2 and c3po, the ewoks and other landmarks together just to take some funny screenshots.
