Rather than resurrecting an old thread, I thought I'd start a new one to ask a few questions.

I've played KOTOR 2, and was thinking of getting the original before Star Wars TOR comes out. Steam has this for £7, does anyone know if I can get this cheaper anywhere else?

Also, KOTOR 2 had massive compatibility issues with more recent versions of Windows - presumably the original would have similar problems? (Edit: actually my version of KOTOR 2 wasn't on Steam - presumably the Steam version has fixed compatibility issues?)

And how are the graphics in comparison to KOTOR 2? Are they fairly similar or significantly worse? Any which of the two games did you prefer?

Sorry for all the questions; I realise "Google is my friend", etc. But I prefer to hear what people have to say. Cheers!

The graphics are pretty much the same (same engine and all that), I had some problems running it on my PC, but managed to get it running on my Vista laptop, so compatibility may be iffy. As for cheaper, well, I don't know, I got it for £5 along with Republic Commando, Empire at War and Battlefront 2 when a certain purple store mistakenly had the compilation really cheap, but it's gone up in price since then.

Kotor 1 is the better game. Gfx are about the same between the two. Their has been issues with kotor 2 for newer operating systems but i think that has been resolved through workaround means.

Pretty sure you can get kotor games for a few quid from most places. Steam had em on sale for like 1.75 i think at one point.

This could be a cheap buy if you win it without many ppl.

Otherwise just pop to town and you might find it in bargain bin or 2nd hand but good nick cheap enough at places like gamestation, etc.

I have an issue with KOTOR 1, it gets a random bsod during playtime. Mine is from steam and it does have the widescreen patch for 1920x1080. Can't be bothered to find the fault but yeah, I get random bsods on it.

Thanks for that link. Although I'm thinking it might be worth paying extra to have it on Steam, especially if they've sorted out the compatibility problems.

You need a dll to fix the Vista\7 issue.

You might also want to have a look at this mod:

It restores a lot of cut content, improves the story considerably and fixes some minor bugs (like Revan being called the wrong gender for example).

Cheers - I'll check those out.

Resurrecting my own thread here, but I just got KOTOR in the current Steam sale. Can anyone tell me how to get it to run in widescreen on Steam?
