I like CoH and Dawn of War 1. They're both a bit old now, will I like it? i'm not sure about playing competitively though so is the AI any good?

The pace of the game is more like dawn of war than coh, definetely no time to sit back like youre able to in coh.

If you're adept at dawn of war and enjoy the fast pace it stands you in good stead to be adept at starcraft 2.

Are there any expansions or dlc I shoul look out for??

first expansion is march 12 called heart of the swarm, then another called Legacy of the void around 2-3 years after that. So I'd wait for heart of the swarm maybe.

Get dawn of war 2 and its expansion 'retribution' it's a brilliant game and the customiser and upgradeability will have you playing over and over again

I would describe SC2 as hard but incredibly rewarding. Don't expect to be any good at multiplayer for a good while. :)

I was high diamond in 1v1 back in season 2, but maintaining that level takes much effort, and even with all the practice I wasn't good enough to grab Masters. Might try get back into it for HoTS.

If you want a good RTS i would recommend Supreme Commander or its add on Forged Alliance (stand alone) you can pick up very cheap now and although an older game, looks and runs well on todays machines!

Lots of base building and controlling very large armies and units, with a proper strategic map overview.

There is still a large community and support for online play, with patches/mods for improved AI if you get to grips with the AI staight from the box.

You cant really go wrong.

I bought Supreme Commander a couple of years ago. Only ever played it once though. Maybe I'll give it another go when my WoW sub ends ;)

Starcraft II is good though. Played the campaign through once, and played multiplayer with a mate quite a lot, and am playing the campaign again so I'm ready for Heart of the Swarm next month :)

I found with SC2, if you're willing to take the Multiplayer aspect of it quite "seriously", then you'll get a lot of fun out of it. Otherwise you'll get bored quickly... And it loses it's replayability quite fast imo. But funnily enough, I was going to mention Supreme Commander myself as somebody else did... definitely go for their advice, if you're looking for a decent RTS to get a lot of hours out of.

Very 'epic' feeling to it when you're controlling different armies across the battlefield in a massive conflict spanning an entire map. But it's a different feel from your usual RTS as well... I wouldn't compare it to C&C, and the 'craft series in that respect, as it's scale is just so much bigger.

Depends what you're looking for... as you say, you like Dawn of War and I'd say DoW is like SC2 in a lot of regards. You build a base, you kill the enemy. Simple. Well, maybe not a lot of regards then...

Starcraft 2 is hard to swallow at first. Single play does a terrible job of getting you ready for online.. but then what single play does when the MP is this hardcore.

The game is very rewarding though, you can feel yourself getting better and you're always learning, but it does require you to play on a regular basis, especially when you're starting out otherwise you end up forgetting everything and having to start again when you come back.

Its a great online with what seems like a decend community, I found WoL's campaign lacking :(

Well worth the £18-20 it is at the moment if you shop around.

Starcraft 2 is boring IMO.

The fun with the original was in the custom maps, its longevity (for the vast majority of players) can be attributed to that, this is severely lacking in starcraft 2.

If you want a fast paced competitive RTS though its pretty much that!
