Hey guys! I recently got an ati 6950 2gb card and wante to try sc2!

I played a game on multiplayer on highest and the game runs brilliantly!

But then it just locked up, couldnt alt tab, ctrl alt delete etc! Eventually it caught up with itself and task manager opened and i cpuld tab back into the game and continue! Not good for online!

Other specs

Q6600 processer
4gb ram
160 gb hdd
650w xfx psu

Havent a clue what it is, just finished crysis 2 on extreme eith no problems at all!

Any help would be awesome!

Thanks :)

If it's only happened once I wouldn't worry about it. Could be just a random bug with the game and your setup.

Try updating all your drivers (video, sound etc) including any other extra hardware in your computer as it may be interfering. It could also be something running in the background hogging all the resources like an antivirus trying to do a full scan, the defragmenter trying to defrag your disk or Windows updates installing.

hey mate! thanks for the reply, theres nothing in the background, and have just noticed wow is doing it now too! just a brief pause for like 5 seconds then it continues, but just then it locked up like sc2 did the other day :S getting a tad worried now!

Mate I've had what your desribing a few times before. Something is defo wrong. The first thing that comes to mind is overheating, either your CPU or GPU, but it could also be drivers.

Is your PC running smooth and completly free of spyware/malware/viruses etc? have you got all the correct programs installed to check for them?

I'd run ccleaner, anti-virus check, malwarebytes etc. Then install latest graphic drivers, and also at the same time that your doing all that check to see what temperature everything is running at.

Make sure you got latest drivers for mobo/sound/graphics.

Also check that nothing is hogging up CPU usage in taskmanager.

Hmm, I'm running SC2 on a E5300 and 8800GT system with no such issues...

Sounds like something in the background is stealing your CPU cycles...

Are you running any AV and if so what one?

Hi guys!

Im running avg free in the background but never had this issue before, i dont think its a virus as im running a fresh install of windows since i got my graphics card last week!

When i got the card i also got a new case with more fans and upgrade my cpu cooler to a better one instead of the stock one i was using!

I havent checked sound card drivers so could try that first, just seems weird as it wasnt happening the other day on wow! Just started doing it last night :S

Thanks guys!

Well if it's doing it on Warcraft as well as Starcraft then something must be wrong with the PC.

I've try some stability tests like OCCT and see that everything is running ok. Even dodgy RAM could cause freezing or crashing...

Hopefully its nothing more than ram if it is hardware, was thinking of upgrading that anyways!

A friend suggested running it in windowed full screen mode to see if it still does it but should work on full screen!

If something did go wrong it must have done so when i played sc2 as i had played bfbc2 and crysis 2 before that for along time with no issues

With OCCT, what am i looking for mate? Thanks :)
