Starcraft 2

Multiplayer is crazy hard.. on the plus side i have since been playing a bit of DoW2 and find starcraft has greatly improved my micro since last i played it :D

best game on pc for years and years - brought me back into pc gaming tbf. dont get it if your gonna cry when you realise its a hard a game to truly get to grips with.

For noobs is there any point to it? I could only barely hold my own online in C&C Generals (last comparable RTS I played online), I'm assuming SC2 will be ludicrously difficult :/
Just remember that there are always people worse than you. When you play, you will be matched with people of similar skill so don't worry about constantly being owned.

Yeah don't worry about being good. There is such a diverse range of skill levels. As has been said you are always matched at your level and if you improve you will be matched against better players. Simple :)

What isn't often mentioned is that team games are great too. 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 with friends are great fun and can be less intimidating than 1v1.

Starcraft was my first RTS game ever and it took me a few weeks to get the basics, then after than you start to discover and appreciate the more in depth strategy and techniques used in the game.

I commentate mostly low level games (bronze/silver league) based on FUN and hopefully learning a few things along the way. I have also recently put up a few videos aimed at giving quick tips to newer players :)

single player is excellent, no other word for it, graphics are vibrant and well executed, multi-player however for me isn't good!

suffers the problem the first game suffered and most strategy games do for that matter, I find Starcraft II like playing the same multi-player game over and over, even against different people. find them doing the exact same things which gets a little tedious after a while. played the original Starcraft extensively on-line but haven't done much on second for the reason mentioned.

its not that I cannot compete or something like that, its just I want more from my on-line gaming experience, to have to counter the same Zerg rushing tactic four games in a row is a bit much, personally like trying new things and you will NOT find that in Starcraft II or most strategy games on-line.

though on the other side the game supports mod creation and doing such is rather simple, currently working some custom maps with loads of new units and other stuff with some people from work, intentionally trying to set the races apart, make them more diverse and unique. it is worth it for the single player experience and some on-line/skirmish games, and for its sick data editor! ;)

I did play SC1 online 'back in the day' and got repeatedly pwnd so I gave up, played the single player and never looked at online again :(
