Starcraft II Delayed

Doh. Although as the article says, the game was never officially dated in the first place, so no big surprise :(

Gutted most of all as this will probably mean that Diablo 3 will be a 2011 release now. Most upsetting!

How was something with no release date delayed?

The arcticle links to another arcticle where blizzard said they intend to have one major release every year, and Activision had already factored it into company earnings and although it wasn't specifically said to be Starcraft 2, it's the only product they have in the works that seems anywhere near completion.

Therefore they pretty much said Starcraft 2 will be out in late 2009.

Still no release date was ever given... they were hoping to get it out in 2009, but nothing had been set in stone, they won't have been naive enough to budget for 2009 or bust -- I guess the obvious caveat always presented of "until its done" gets conveniently ignored though as soon as a date gets incremented to fall in line with a sudden bout of shock horror delays.

The president of Blizzard said "We're targeting an end of year release--this year--for StarCraft 2", and now they're targeting it for the first half of 2010. That, in my eyes is a delay.

So you read that and had some kind of blackout when you hit the following line: "But as always, we won't release it until it meets our standards" <-- the underlying rule which voids any kind of ability to pin your hopes on estimates, especially those given the best part of a year in advance... There was no delay because it was only ever going to go gold when it was ready, not on some utter 'maybe' given at the start of the year.

Well since Blizzard don't have a tyrannical publisher looming over them demanding a release date of them, nor are they naive enough of a developer to set a date in stone - what other developers go through is irrelevant. All you've seen is them confirm when it won't be out by... not delay it. Unless you of course want to apply some extremely loose, none context specific definition of delay, in which why has it taken so long for this thread to appear?

Duke Nukem Forever was a lot of things, but not delayed. It stuck to "when it's done" until the end. Unless you have some release date given for it you want to show me? as I must have missed it.

Christ, so much mind-numbing pedantry! It's coming out later that lots of people expected from reading between the lines, therefore the thread title is apt, regardless of whether or not it had an official date.

Chill out :p

lol

ZOMG liek Blizard didn't delay teh gaem, th father of my gnome warlock iz infallibal.

kek!

OP: Sucks it's getting delayed, although I'm sure they had a good enough reason and I guess I'd rather have a finished game than one with bugs and unfinished content.

Whilst not hugely surprised, it does suck.

Still, both Blizzard and Valve operate a "when it's done" operation, and they both continue to release flawless games.

You are forgiven, Blizzard.

Valve... where the hell is episode three, gits.

The president of Blizzard said "We're targeting an end of year release--this year--for StarCraft 2", and now they're targeting it for the first half of 2010. That, in my eyes is a delay.

It's a target, not a promise.

You also neatly left out the rest of the quote that said " "But as always, we won't release it until it meets our standards and the expectations of our players.""
