Starcraft Remastered Released

So this is pretty much a skin literally being applied over the original game isn't it? Doesn't add anything else?

Noticed it says you need the original to use it or something? On the fence though, would be a good way to revisit the game but I wonder how well the mechanics and actual feel of it have aged

Just a reskin with a higher res (ncludes the expansion). You can also zoom in and out now.....cant remember off hand if the original allowed that.

What I would add mind you is that it doesnt support 21:9 or multi monitor resolutions. It seems to be locked at 16:9.....a Blizzard speciality.

Saying that though, I am enjoying it a lot

It plays and feels just like the original, loving it. As an RTS it still holds up well and I've always like the SC story.

Informative post.

They're not going to make significant changes to a 20 year old game are they, otherwise just release an update to StarCraft II or release StarCraft III. StarCraft II is their focus, and changing StarCraft too much would just split the player base across 2 games. If they changed StarCraft too much, people would just complain that it wasn't StarCrafty enough. They can't win. If you want the new experience, play StarCraft II. If you want the older experience with a visual and sound refresh, play this. It looks and sounds better, and will help push their eSports commitment.

They'll have the same issue if (when) they release Diablo II Remastered. People will just complain it's Diablo II with new graphics and sounds (yes... remastered then?). If they made an entirely new game, people would just complain it wasn't like Diablo II and should have been called Diablo IV.

Really enjoying memory lane with this at the moment.

TBH I would probably enjoy just as much playing the original because the game is so damn good.

I was never one for online play, my ego couldnt take the beating I would invariably get!:p

It coming to game pass reminded me to play it ager having picked it up years ago. Love the nostalgia from the campaign. It influenced so much of my life, competing at the wcg etc. My favourite game ever, I had forgotten how much I like it, as after playing sc2, I was expecting to find it frustrating now I'm only playing it casually.

I actually prefer only being able to control 12 units, it forces better control and micro instead of just 1a to victory. I do miss multi building selection though, and dragoon pathing is laughable :D I'm glad they didn't change anything though, the quirks are all part of the balance and fixing them without then committing to a load of patches would have broken the game.

SC1 always had a 12-unit cap on selecting units.

SC2 didn't really have much of a cap.
So its not weird then only being able to select 12. Changing it to allow more would massively affect gameplay, strategy and micro management of units. Glad they kept it the same

I must have been thinking of SC2. Its a certainly a few years since I played SC1 now
