HAY GUISE WHEN IS STAR CRAFTS 2 RELEAS DATE???????~~

No not really.

Just a general Starcraft thread. I did a few searches and the most recent one I could find was just about live SC and last bumped in November '08, so I didn't think it was too out of order making a new one to encompass OcUKers who still play, low level strategy talk, and watching and discussing pro SC, assuming there is any interest.

On the topic of pro Starcraft, the GOMTV Averatec-Intel Classic Season 2 final was this weekend:

...and can be watched at www.gomtv.net with top quality English commentary. Without spoilering - there were some really entertaining games, despite being Protoss v Protoss which is usually boring (imo :)), with some unorthodox builds and sweet play from both players. None of the games were just mirror builds that degenerated into macrofests, which was cool. The commentary team work together really well, and cater for everyone from people who've only played a few games to really high-skilled players - Tasteless is pretty funny and Super Daniel Man used to coach a pro SC team so his knowledge of strategy is fantastic. If you have even a passing interest in Starcraft these videos are worth watching as they're very entertaining, and even if you yourself play badly (like me) it's still awesome to watch the game being played at such a high level.

I also wondered if anyone still plays SC:BW, and would like to play against other OcUKers or talk low-skill strategy? I play a lot on bnet, but it does get tiresome with every game being against people who are either >250APM gosus, or maphacking, or both. I'd move to ICCup for better anti-hack but the calibre of player there is even higher and I'd never stand a chance. If anyone from OcUK wants to beat up on a noob Terran, let me know :)

I guess that's about it. I fully appreciate Starcraft is such an old game now that there may not be enough interest to sustain a thread about it, in which case I'll let this die and no harm done.

thanks for the link.

U know of any similar links?

Assuming you mean for English casting of pro SC, like GOMTV - uhm, there are the VioleTAK and CholeraSC Youtube accounts, which are SC:BW players doing their own casts of pro games (the VioleTAK account is mostly OSL/MSL whereas Cholera does English commentary for old classic games and stuff as well).

Apart from that, I don't know, to be honest. Tasteless and Daniel (and formerly Susie) are the only professional - in that they are employed and paid to do it - English-language commentary team that there is, I think. Could be wrong though.

Hopefully there is less protoss in the next tournament. Having some protoss is OK, but sometimes the matches seem a bit repetative with the ammount of protoss there is.

Yeah, I agree. Protoss dominance is pretty dull (imo, obviously) as I think the race can't be played in as entertaining a fashion as Terran or Zerg. Still, it wasn't really that there were too many Protoss by volume, it was just that as the rounds progressed they owned everyone until it was nearly all Protoss in the Ro8, and I suppose that can't really be helped :(. There's only four Protoss left in the MSL Ro16, and five in the OSL Ro16, though, so maybe the latter stages of those tournaments will throw up a lot more non-PvP matchups.

Most half decent public players will have 200+ APM (I was around 180 when I was addicted).

I wouldn't expect this game to be out until 2010 but it should be worth the wait :)

Well... yeah, that's the point I was making :), that any practising bnet player is lightyears ahead of a recreational one. That's partly the reason for this thread, in case any casual OcUKer wanted to play against a non-gosu opponent.

Thread's about SC1, but yeah, true that too!

I get to watch it on tv, with korean commentary though. Some of the kids I teach want to be 'pro-gamers', which i find quite amusing. Naturally i never play online here, as i wound be owned in about 3 seconds.
