I reckon my wife will like Stardew Valley and I would like to play it in our living room with steamlink (wireless connection) and an Xbox controller.

How good an experience are we likely to get and is it the sort of game that two players can take turns with and not get too bored?

I've read that controller support isn't great and won't bother if it'll be frustrating. A bit of a specific question, I know.

I've played a lot of Stardew Valley via steamlink. Works flawlessly with controller or kb/m. It's more satisfying with kb/m, as you get a bit more control over the tile you are working on, with controller you have to walk up to the tile. With kb/m you can activate all 8 tiles surrounding you. It's not a game breaker though and I still very much enjoyed playing.

Ok thanks. I've bought it and will give it a punt later. Or rather I'll likely end up watching in frustration as my wife bumbles about planting stuff I don't agree with!

LOL

Yes, if you start trying to offer guidance, you will be accused of "taking over" or something like that :D

You could take it in turns to do a day. Or a level of the mines. Good luck. I don't envy you, sounds like row territory. I hope I'm wrong :)

She couldn't get the hang of the controls, either mouse+kb or controller. It's been consigned to the dustbin of 'ideas which were good, but didn't work'.

Been there myself. You tried games like Life is Strange or the Walking Dead? My other half likes them.

Tried to get Mrs into this too, been with her 10 yrs and the only game she has enjoyed playing with me was 'Boom Blox' on the Wii

Was great fun though! I highly recommend trying it if you can
