I found this gem the other day when i was looking for some low level games that could run on a lan computer.

Anyone know of any good mods for it?

I remember an online multiplayer setting, can anyone remember what its called? It was a big map and you fought for space.

Any links would be appreciated. Plus anyone know if it will work on Vista 64/32?

Thanks

Plenty (and by plenty, I mean a metric-****-tonne) of new ships models and texture upgrades have been made for the game. The Battleclinic community docks has more than a few of them.

Dynaverse II. I remember that alright, lost many hours of my life killing Romulan scum in my Federation drone cruiser :)

Any links would be appreciated.

Dyna.net is where the bulk of the community resides.

Pretty sure it does. Certainly works on XP x64, so Vista x64 shouldn't trip it up.

Which have you got by the way? Empires at War, or the standalone expansion Orion Pirates? OP includes the X-Ships and later weapons tech, plus the online play is better supported. Also has a few bugs fixed (and a few introduced, hey ho :D) and some extra weapons and weapon arcs in the code that you can reach by modding the shiplist.txt file.

I have empire at war, I do hav OP somewhere but I am yet to find it.

Are there any recommended mods you would suggest? Is there a pack that upgrades loads of things or do i need to go through upgrading bits?

Yes Dynaverse II was it! That was great fun. Does that work over a LAN as well?

I never played SC 3, which is the best of the three mentioned? SC2, OP or SC3?

Didnt they dumb down one of them and reduce the shields or something.

If you can find it, that would be the one to play.

As far as ship models go, there are a few packs out there to do mass-upgrades. Search for "D2" without the quote marks on the Battleclinic community docks that I linked to in my previous post - you should be able to find Fed, Klingon and Romulan packs from that which contain higher poly and more detailed models.

Not sure to be honest, the only LAN play I ever did with the game was the occasional 4v4 match on the Uni LAN :)

SFC3 was a massive disappointment, and it's an utter PITA to get working on Vista. It's bad enough making it work with XP....OP is my favourite of the series, though I do wish they'd retained the ship refitting (as in, series upgrades rather than SFC3's retarded version of it) from SFC1.

4 rather than 6 shields, most of the power management skill removed, most of the tactics removed. Though you can go in reverse, which is something I wouldn't have minded seeing in OP. It also has a more "canon-Trek" cloak rather than the SFB version of it, which some people prefer. I don't.

This game is a real blast from my past...1st game I ever played on line and played religiously for about 4 year, started on EaW and finished with OP...Quite right that SFC3 was pants, I mainly played Romulan Scum...lol

The Dynaverse II link is the best place to go, majority of the community play OP only, they run regular campaigns, if you want a PvP then GameSpy is best place, late evening usually the best, as most players are Yanks....

Ezini is a nice little mod it will help you set a decent screen res....

Then there was Co-OP ace.....

and Firesoles ship list....

Great game great memories thanx for opening this thread.....

Any links to recommended packs for OP as i found it. Cant find a download for dynaverse 2 either?

Ok so Dynaverse 2 is already on the game. Shame you cant play this on LAN (Or can you?)

I cant seem to get the multiplayer to work either, it tries to connect to the internet and gamesspy but im not on the internet.

Any suggestions?

GameSpy..... You need to down load this programme, launch it and make an account....Then go to the OP lobby, pick & choose your times, weekends are the best and you may find about a dozen or so on there.......

This is the link for the D2 boards, http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/board,12.0.html they are active in OP and run regular campaigns on the Dynaverse....top of the page is a list for important links you will need to download....Register at that site and pose any questions there, they will be far more helpful in telling what you need to play on line and offer you the correct links......

The games a bit dated now but it was still a great online game, let me know how you get on, or if you need any help....
