Did anyone play the original game?

StarsiegeTribesBox.jpg

One of the best online games I ever played. 10 years old now but still looks relatively decent graphics wise. Was a game which had a pretty hard learning curve when it came to mastering the use of your jet pack and how efficient you should be with it when it comes to combat.

Used to run flawlessly on my 200MHZ PC at the time when no other game did really, which was probably why I played the game so much back then.

Its just a shame the new games couldn't capture the feeling of the first game. Not sure what it was really with the newer games but I could never get into them.

Would love to hear from people who played this as well

Shazbot!

Tribes 2 allot but never the origanal.
It as complex enough that a good group of people using battlecom (old voip program) could have sooo much fun. Only game that came close after it to me as Planetside.
Tanks should need 2 people a driver and a gunner in more games.

Humans taste like Fish.

I used to play tribes a lot. I was the forerunner to battlefield imo, planes, vehicles, mines, gun turrents etc etc

Downhill skiing, jumping from one baseship to the other...

An amazing game.

I've only ever really got into 5 fps games over the years.

Quake
Tribes
RTCW
Battlefield 1942
Battlefield 2

Planetside had the right idea but it was just never implemented the way I wanted it to be. Loved the vehicles but fighting on the ground felt weird and less skillful and I always felt I wasn't achieving anything unless I was in a huge group of people. It was a bit laggy when I played it too which didn't help the cause.

EDIT - Just read on Wikipedia one of the head developers from Tribes 2 went onto to help make Planetside. That would explain the similarities.

As for the original tribes I used to love getting into a heavy suit (with the mortar gun) and just bombarding the enemy's base. They were so prone to snipers outside buildings though, so anything other than base defense or inside a vehicle was impossible to move around without everyone picking on you, hah.

Used to hate those hundreds of mods people implemented on their servers though. Never knew what was going on with different speeds, classes, gun modifications.

Battlefield 1942 and 2 are the only games that ever come close as well for me. The vehicles (especially in battlefield 2) are extremely important for actual attacking the enemy. Although in Tribes they only really had one or 2 transport vehicles that had any guns on. Or did they? The Scout had rockets I think
