Hi All;

I have a Q6600 based PC that is sadly past its best. Some bits of it might be re-usabel - an Antec case, Corsair HX520W Modular Power Supply, 1Tb Hard disk and DVD Rom perhaps?

Since it's all several years old I am wondering if trying to re-use these bits will be more trouble than it's worth and I might as well retire the whole lot?

I have a budget of around £1,000 - I will need a new Monitor but have a mouse, Keyboard and Windows 7 (with upgrade to 10).

Use will be Games such as Total War, MMO games, GTA plus some newer games I hope!

The screen will be sat on my desk so Imagine 24" will be more than sufficient. Any overclocking will be 'light'.

I look forward to your recommendations on the best way forwards :-)

Case will be fine, and the hard drive will be fine for additional storage (but would recommend an SSD)

DVD Rom might even by an IDE drive, depending on when the PC was built, so worth checking. These days unless you need an optical drive e.g. to rip CD's then you can likely do without.

PSU is likely fine, but might be worth replacing just on age alone - newer models are more efficient, and also would be a shame for the PSU to pack up and damage your new build in the worst case.

Maybe something like this would do the trick, if you want to reuse the case then would save a bit, i would definitely replace the psu though good as the hx where psu's do degrade over time. And that monitor is very good have one myself and its excellent.

Ok thanks, I am edging towards a complete rebuild, so everything except Windows - I may as well get a new mouse and Keyboard... budget is the same £1000..

I assume I can get a pretty decent set up for that?
