Start button and charms stop working in Windows 8.1

For some reason recently my start button and charms stops working in Windows 8.1. This has happened 3 times and i have to press Ctrl+Shift+Esc and restart Windows Explorer to get them to work again. Anyone else had this?.

have you tried doing a sfc scan?

it will tell you if it finds any issues with windows itself first thing i always do
