Hi guys,

I have a review coming up in work and they have a question which is quite tricky to answer. They want an answer to the following:-

Please state something in your career that you would like to:-

1) Start
2) Stop
3) Continue

I am ok for 'Start' (e.g. Start learning new stuff... etc...)
I am ok for 'Continue' (e.g. Continue doing what I am doing...)
But I need something for 'Stop'.

It's tricky to think of something though eh?

Anything I put for that is admitting a failure right?

Any advice would be appreciated to give me some ideas!

If you honestly can't think of anything, leave it blank. Then when in your reviews say you couldn't think of anything, and ask if there is anything they should think you could stop.

Suppose it would be a case of putting them on the spot, while trying to get positive feedback.

Alternatively, if your not taking the process too seriously you could put something like " Stop peeing in the drinking fountain" :p

In true overclockers style you could:

stop claiming it
stop smothering it in mustard
stop nuking it from orbit
stop burning it with fire
stop punching it in the ovaries
stop high-fiving it (my my that seems a while ago)

Or to put the wind up them

stop passing information to the FSA
stop whistleblowing
stop passing information to the competition

or

stop staring at womens chests/mens rears/HR peoples nostrils
stop polishing your shoes to the extent that you can look up skirts
stop hiding cameras around the building.

"Start... being more ALPHA"

But really, having a weakness is not really admitting failure. You need to be able to identify your own weaknesses and say how you can improve on what your doing in a positive light. (almost) Any weakness can be made to look positive if you do it right

START: Have you any ideas that would improve what your doing? Such as doing something a different way?

STOP: As above, is there any part of your job you feel is a waste of time? explain why.

Maybe link the start/stop to the same process.

Continue: Providing good customer support/motivate my team etc.

It would really help if we knew what you did :D

Stop.... Stop asking stupid flowery HR questions that no one really gives a flying **** about.

If I hear from one more HR bell end " tell me the last time someone praised you " I will implode. :D I've been dieing to say, " Last night in bed after giving the mrs one" ;)

I was going to say HBOS. Everyone buys their BS from the one place, and that one place must be laughing.

Our one had start, stop, continue and consider I seem to recall.

I think you are taking a bit too seriously. Whenever I had to fill these things in at my old company I'd just fill it out in one sitting.

I'm assuming of course it's not some kind of formal review process and is being asked of every employee, rather than an appraisal.

At the end of the day, your 'line manager' or equivalent should know whether you are doing a good job or not and whatever you put on some wishy-washy form isn't going to make a lot of difference.
