Start up problem

Ever since i upgraded my hard drive and upgraded to xp pro every now and then my pc will not start up first time.When this happens i get a black screen with 5 options being
safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt

last known configuration...

and

boot up the normal way.

If i press enter everthing boots ok and everything works ok but there is no error code or any indication as to where the problem is can anyone help

normally after the computer fails to load windows it chucks up the options.

Thanks for your suggestions i reformatted and i still have the problem
