Start Up Problems

Hi All.
Recently I've had major problems with my PC. Basically it will only run in safe mode. If I try to start up normally it will reboot after the vista loading Bar, sometimes if I turn it on this won't happen, vista won't start up at all even though the fans, lights and hdds all appear to be working. I'm pretty useless with pc's so I'm hopeful you guys can help me out.

As it's booting ok in safe mode it's likely to be software related.If you've installed anything recently then try a system restore back to a point before you started to get problems.You could also download and run Malwarebytes from safe mode.Then if that doesnt work run a full virus scan in safe mode.Post back with the results.

Ok, so I tried malwarebytes and cleaned up some malware off my system. The same problems persisted. Tried a virus scan with avast, set up the scan for start up and restarted the system, scan began but I then got a blue screen of death and the operating system refused to load allthough the pc did not restart it stayed on.

Sounds like Avast killed your operating system, you will either have to repair your installation or put a fresh copy on.

I had a similar problem with an Avast boot scan three months back, killed a lap top operating system. I was trying to clean a virus off the HD like you.
