Started Playing SC: FA - Core Maximizer? 3Gb? Mods?

Ok, I have a 2.8Ghz i7 Mac Pro and a 4870 512Mb.

I've read about core maximizer, does it do anything for FA?
What about the 3Gb+ patch?

Also any other mods? Some kind of community bug fix? (I've seen none in the single player...)

Very good game, but single player battles need more CPU time really.

Core maximiser is definitely useful, for both vanilla and FA.

Not sure about the other questions though, never used many of the supcom mods. Though I have heard that the Sorian AI mod is pretty good.
