Started using Chrome because it's less meaty than Firefox...

Chrome will typically allocate each tab to fit into its own process to "prevent malware from installing itself" and prevent what happens in one tab from affecting what happens in another; however, the actual process-allocation model is more complex.

Looks like afairly hefty total amount of memory usage, but no matter if you've a stack of free ram i guess.

Chrome actually uses quite a lot of RAM because of the multiple process approach. It will, however, free memory up more efficiently when you close tabs.

So long as it's fast, does it matter? You still have 82% of your RAM free...

It doesnt matter, 16gb RAM should go a long way. i was just inquiring as i was under the impression Chrome was a waif. Makes sense.

Similar to IE. Most browsers now take advantage of the extra ram incase one site stops responding, so if it crashes it doesn't affect the rest of the tabs.
