ok i'm not really sure how this happend but i got water in my fuel over the weekend

car = 306 turbo diesel

i think my filler cap may have let some rain in

so this morning i completely drained the tank, and put some fresh diesel in

now i had to turn the engine over until the battery went flat in order to get the air/water out of the engine, and then i had to bump start the car, which worked after half a mile down the hill!

now the starter will not work at all, nothing even though my battery is charged enough to work the glowplugs and dash lights

so, is the starter dead and if so wheres the best place to get another?

If the starter is dead, I found GSF Car Parts good when I had my 205. I bought a refurbed unit from them for not much money and it worked perfectly.

^^ This, or pop over to pug306.net and see if anyone is breaking a derv - always something!

Try hitting it with a hammer and block of wood. :) Try jump starting it first though because as said already your battery might not be holding charge.

The starter draws a lot of current at startup....any small problem with battery will show.

I would charge the battery overnight first and go from there. What voltage do you have at the battery with engine off.

I had a 306 DTurbo many years ago, I had to sometimes heat up the glow plugs twice in order for it to start.

Does it make any noises when you turn the ignition?

thanks all, as suggested i left it to charge overnight last night and then i smacked it with a block of wood - i'm not sure if this helped but i felt better afterwards! anyway, it now starts, so i'm glad i don't have to shell out for a new starter motor, but i'm going to have to keep an eye on the battery as letting it go flat is bad as far as i know. :)
