I've started having a go at eve and was wondering what people think is the best route of going?

I like the fact they have put a queuing system for learning. I dont have as much time to play as other so this is helpful for me.

What is the best way to earn isk as a starter? is there a guide that is helpful that i should look at?

All depends on what you want to do, as above, if the Corp route is your thing. or mining, can earn quick isk from mining and there as a good guide up on the forums for this.

With the new way starting characters are done it is now posible to be in a Procurer within 6 days, a Retreiver in 8 and a Hulk in 45. A vast improvement upon the old system but it requires ISK to pull this off, if you can get into a mining corp (Yes, im scouting for new members here - hehe) they should be able to fund it. the returns are stagering. Mining is a long path to follow if your to become an elite miner but well worth it in the long run. Once your done with training your miner then you can complement him/her with Astrometric skills so you can go hunt down Worm Holes and Grav Sites (Hidden Asteroid fields).

Some Engineering, Electronics and Mechanic skills trained to lvl 3 should also be considered. Drones also so you can defend youself against the rats, you can more than hold your own in a Hulk and with a few drones right down to 0.5 sec with no problems.

Something that will help you imensly is a utility called EVEMon, you can plan out you training and play around with ideas, you can also see the benefit from altering your atributes aswell as implants will make to your training times.

whatever you do, you're never going to make as much isk mining as you would doing missions.

Me and a friend both recently started EVE, I really don't see the big thing about it whereas he's just mega hooked on it, but to be fair I only got as far as the combat training missions. Anyone got any wise words to make me think twice about trying it again? It's not that I find it difficult its just the huge tutorial bit that kinda put me off.

Thats not entirly true now is it? Running lvl 1 missions is no where near as profitable as a starting miner.

Maybee youd like to explain how many lvl 1 -3 missions you have to do in order to start on those profitable lvl 4s and how many playing hours you have to put in in order to get there.

Mining has the advantage of it being about training and not the amount of hours you put into mission running, Sure you have to spend the hours when your actualy mining, but to get beter returns, you just train up your skills instead of the constant barrage of missions with little return in comaprison to 15 mins of mining here and there.

Mining, im guarenteed of a return of 600,000 ISK every 159 seconds per Hulk, thats 1.2mil ISK with my 2 hulks mining and thats a conservative estimate. I can mine for 15 minutes here and there and im not tied into finishing anything, for you mission runners out there you have to atleast reach your goal for it to be worth while which can take a lot longer than 15 mins, even then its like playing the lottery with no guarenteed high value return.

tbh lvl 2 missions are what you normaly start with anyway and they are
a)fun
b)profitable

where's he going to mine?
who's going to haul for him?
your ISK/min goes RIGHT down when you don't factor in the 2nd account mining or hauling.

Mining in wormholes would seem to be very lucrative. I've probed out quite a few sites that have had Arkonor, Bistot, Mercoxit, etc.

So long as he doesnt try to mine around Jita he can mine anywhere he feels like and he does not need a hauler from the start, in relativley safe spots he can jetcan mine and come back in a hauler to retreive (yes this is risky) and it only takes 4 days to train up a damn decent Minmitar hauler which is better than going the Iteron route which takes 30 days+ for better haulage space.

Even if I was on a single account and mining with just a Hulk, swapping out for the Mammoth as and when I needed haulage its still way more profitable than lvl 1 - 3 missions and im still not tied down to anything requiring 30 mins + play time to get a reward.
