Used to play WoW, going to buy LotR next week, if I'll be needing any mods or guides to help me get started, could you send me some links? Which server are the OCUK peeps playing on, and are there any guilds here that'll accept a new player? What class would you recommend? I used to dualbox a priest/rogue in WoW for raids, and 4-5 box my druid and 3/4 of my shamans when I was farming. Prefer a healing or a hybrid class. Thnx in advance :D !

Practically everyone, including myself will advise you to join Laurelin [EN-RP] server as it's the most mature and helpful.. but you'll probably end up on Snowbourn [WoW-Emulator] server.

Healers are covered in many ways with the Minstrel the main one followed by the Runekeeper and maybe a Captain as backup. I have no knowledge of classes in that 'other' game you mentioned and would advise you not to compare it to Lotro as they are worlds apart.

Well myself and all my associates have been on Snowbourn since the start, unsure how chummy knows its such a wow-emulator place as he hasn't played wow. I've never had an issue with friendlyness on Snowbourn. Haven't tried Laurelin, but you are meant to start in RP mode on there, and remain in RP. There was a campaign against the runekeepers on there also for a time, not sure if it fizzled out or not.

Played on both Snowbourn and Laurelin. Vastly preferred Laurelin, but thats probably just because the Laurelin community fitted me better than the community on Snowbourn.

Maybe an idea to make a character on both servers and see which one fits you best.

Don't wanna make a new post so sorry to high jack this.

How big a part is PvP in this game? Is it good?
What's a good PvP class?
Thanks

Small, and it can be good and I've had fun playing in PvP (known in LOTRO as PvMP), but it's not a main focus of the game and it kinda shows.

Depends on whether you are going to be a creep or a freep. Freep, then I guess anything that isn't a Minstrel :P (that being said Minstrels can do very well, but they often get targetted first) - preferably something with CC. Hunter is an obvious choice due to CC and their tracking skills.

Although my knowledge of the game is about 4 months old, maybe there are new things since then.

To be honest, PvP is a very small part of LOTRO. Its effectively just 1 zone that you can pvp in, playing as either your max level character, or as a "monster" character (which you can create once your normal character has reached lvl10).

Due to this the pvp balance is a bit iffy at times and it can quite quickly become repetitive.

Its a game thats really much more focused on PvE. The PvP aspect isnt so much of a side salad as a pack of crisps on the floor of the restaurant :D

Terrific RP/PvE game, but for PvP I would look elsewhere.

Thank you :)

Was trying to find a MMO for me and the GF. I'm a pvp freak she quiet likes it but also likes quests and stuff.

Thanks again :)

having made the move from warcraft to lotro and then back to warcraft and now i play both (lifetime sub on lotro)

The best tip is, don't rush :)

lotro rewards patience, there is plenty of quests, lots of story, loads of places to discover.

And don't be afraid to use the advice channel, having been on eldar server since launch I found the people very friendly and a lot more mature than in warcraft.

Have fun :)

If that's the case, Guild Wars is worth a shout, it's very quest focused in PvE, it's kind of like reading a book, there are "side quests" but the main quests follow one long story from beginning to end. It also has decent PvP, however PvP is limited to arenas and larger faction v. faction instance zones.

It's also free to play after you buy the game itself.

ooooweooooh handbags 'chummy' !!!! but you've kinda proved my point about certain players attitudes on my old server haha thanks !! you do realise i was being sarcastic with the WoW comment right ? :p

I also started on Snowbourn after Open/Closed Beta but grew tired of the OOC and childish behaviour. Your wrong about Laurelin RP and having to stay in RP mode, it's quite lenient and relaxed but it does have additional rules other servers don't. The events are what make the server special and those not taking part or passing through never spoil the atmosphere or hinder them. I'm not saying Snowbourn should be avoided more pointing out that the RP server is more mature shall we say.

PvP is actually all there is to do once you reach the level cap unless you want to run the same instances/skirmishes over and over, which many do as they are fun. PvP takes place in the Ettenmoors where the free poeple 'freeps' fight with Monster players 'creeps'. All classes of 'freeps' have their uses in the moors but naturally some are more powerful but as updates come and go all classes get nerfed or buffed and atm it's the 'creep' who are overpowered :D

quick Hijack !! don't suppose you know when Guild Wars II might be released ?

The estimated release is 2011.

Another thing for cHk4, PvP in guild wars can be done from the very beginning as you can create max level characters for exclusive use in PvP.

You will be supprsied how helpfull most people are compaired with wow, all you need to do is ask a question or for help and some one will get back to you.

The gms are also pretty good, i asked a question about a title and they got back to me within half a hour.

Also for your first char its good to go a gather prof for money so you can sell your matts. i think thats standerd for most mmos though :P

I like Snowbourn, been there for over a year, was never one for RP. The server population is helpful, sociable and pretty mature these days, I guess all the brats have long gone elsewhere.

Sorry for bumping an old thread!

I have just started playing this, currently a lvl 16 champ and really enjoying it, but I am finding it difficult to get a group for fellowship quests, if anyone is around my level and wants to team up I'd appreciate it.

What server?

Common misconception - probably more than half the people on Laurelin don't roleplay, and the other half won't impose their roleplaying on you unless you want them to.

It's more like a server where everyone is friendly, and a few hundred people have volunteered to take the part of npc actors just to make it more immersive for me :)

Absolutely perfect description of Laurelin :D
This is the reason I switched from Snowbourne many many moons ago. It's a great place to play and sometimes just hang out ;)
