starting to fold again

right so running my i7 2600k and 2x gtx 570's folding atm

should my cpu do more than my gfx cards?? coz it seems the cpu is lagging behing them at the moment...
 
Depends what sort of work unit it is doing :)

1. Are you using the SMP client?
2. Are you doing SMP units (using -smp flag)
3. Have you configured a passkey? If so you have to do 10 regular SMP units before you get the bonus points inherent in the SMP system.
4. Don't use -bigadv flag with -advmethods flag
 
seems my system is running ok at the moment :) running on cpu and both gfx cards still! need to get me a decent water cooling setup so im not kept up at night while im crunching! :(
 
Just started folding again too, my last WU was 2009 :p

A few quick questions;

Is it worth using a passkey? Can I fold with my Ati 6870? What flags should I use other than smp?

Yes, definitely
You can but its not worth it (low points, high cpu usage)
Depends on the cpu, if you have 8 threads or more then -bigadv -smp 8
 
Biffa. I'm using startup service method atm with just the. -smp flag. Is it worth using -bigadv also for the. Cpu? Still running my 2 gtx 570's through the fahgpu tracker program.. Won't cause any problems will it?
 
You should test to see if it has an effect, the newer Nvidia drivers improved the cpu usage a lot a few months back, but some people still notice a "hit" on PPD either on the gpu's or the cpu when doing both at the same time. -bigadv will get you "bigger" WU's for the CPU that have a higher bonus for returning them on time, but the client needs to see 8 threads at least on the system for it to allocate them.

The biggest issue people have with bigadv WU's is the time it takes to do them, if you have an unstable overclock or your machine unstable for any reason you could lose a bigadv WU half way through a 4 or 5 day work unit.

bleh.. had to turn pc off last night.. been foldng the last 3 days 24/7 on cpu and gpu.. had a nvidia driver fault so gave the pc a rest as it BSOD on me :( need to WC the gfx asap!
