Ive recently started to undertake a bit of a lifestyle change, with regular gym visits and cutting out of alcohol.

I read the menshealth forums quite a bit. and ive seen people making journals or blog type things.

Im thinking of doing the same to document any improvements on my skinny frame and fitness level. If i can get some good ideas for it, i may compile something i could post on here.

I think it would help keep me motivated, and aim for goals.

Does anyone here do something similar? If so does it work, and do you have any tips?

Or does anyone have any ideas that could give me a good starting point.

For me, keeping a journal would be a chore, but everyones different and whatever helps keep you motivated is a good thing :)

I keep a journal and i always have. there's nothing quite looking back on how you started, then being able to see what you've become. It really will give you a feeling of pride and make you glad you started doing what you're doing.

If you're going to the gym then definately keep a workout journal with what bodypart you're excercising, what exercise, the sets, reps, and the weights being used.

If you're diet is rubbish, then start a diet journal and record in there your Calories, Protein, Carbs, Fats intake. It's a chore at first getting to know what foods have what in but this way, you'll be expert in no time and know what to eat and what not to eat.

i love looking back on my journal and seeing the puny weights i started with and knowing how far i've come. it's a great feeling.

i keep a journal over on muscletalk.co.uk...

anyway post your routine, diet, some background info and your goals, and we can help you out :)

Thanks for the replies guys, Very helpful.

When i get my routine worked out ill post it on here. Im gonna take something to the gym to write on so i can record my current weights. I imagine it will seem like a chore, but i can see the potential in it.

Good luck with your training, Hedge. Bodybuilding is definitely the most worthwhile/rewarding hobby i've ever been involved in. Just don't get caught up in the supplements hype ;)

Take a couple of pictures in the same position every few weeks, if you space the pics out you'll notice the difference on each shot - and that's a great motivator.

Never thought of that... although I do have a picture of me diving and I think i have got buffer since then...

I've got front and side pictures every 2-3 weeks for the past 2.5 months that I've been exercising - I admit I haven't dared look at them yet, but once I've lost my beer gut I think I'll slide show them, hehe.

I guess it's all down to what motivates you - I want to be slim again! :)

I used to want to look buff but now I want to hit targets...

I've hit some of the from the 'targets' thread but as soon as I hit them I want more...

Climbing is lagging as well. I'm better on the wall, but **** on rock. Might just have to get a little more dangerous in that respect... climb with more aggression.
