Starting to regret my purchase...HELP!

Yesturday i drove out to pick up a new monitor a Samsung SM2494HM 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor (LS24KIQRFV/EDC), and unlike me i did not really do any research, i just choose what looked like a reasonable monitor.

I think i was taken with the fact it was height adjustable and had a USB hub.

Problem is its 1920x1080 and although it will be used for games quite abit and the odd movie it mainly a workstation....so i have had a horrible thought......

perhaps i should have got the 1920x1200?

I was between these two...but i guess i could get anything in that price range....

Now its still boxed...and im considering driving back to Stoke and asking them very nicely to swap it....

What should i do!? HHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP
 
am i right in thinking that the T240HD would be better overall?

or am i making a mountain out of a mole hill...

i have it in my head that 1920 x 1200 is the best res for windows and that if im doing general computing at 1080 it would distort things....or it just wouldnt sit right.

nope, it's up to the generosity of the store in question. You can reject it as not fit for purpose, but that won't apply here as he knew the res when purchasing it, and it's not described incorrectly.

If you ask nicely though, most stores would replace as a gesture of goodwill to keep return custom.

With all due respect I have never ever come across a store that has refused an exchange on an unopened item :confused:
 
Hey all thanks for the advice...

I too think that OcUk wont mind me returning it, as it still boxed and sealed and im going to get another one from them.

That NEC 24WMGX3 seems to get mixed reviews....and for that money i want a perfect screen.

Can anyone provide me some links to advice about 1920 x 1200 or 1920 x 1080 and also some advice about monitors....

Whatever i buy needs to be a long term keeper so im not adverse to spending more if there is a gain to it...

Almost all stores do, but it's part of their terms and conditions and in addition to your statutory rights. They would be legal in denying the swap as the return doesn't fall under SOGA's not of suitable quality/unfit for purpose.
 
For workstation use the extra resolution *does* help a lot. Having two monitors is as good/better though...Depending on your needs, you might be better off with two 22" 1680x1050 res monitors (for a similar price).

well OCuk dont normally accept returns like this...on a kind of "i have reconsidered" basis. There is a big fat sign on the front door i now realise!

Anyway they did eventually agree to allow me to swap it and i went for a NEC MultiSync 24WMGX3. However...i must be a magnet for problems as when i got home i noticed the boxed had already been opened and then resealed. So i have left it as it is until i speak to NEC to see if my warranty is ok. Seems a bit weird for it to of been opened as the chap on the counter kept repeating to other customers that he couldnt tell them if there was DVI cables inside the monitor boxes as they are all factory sealed.

i just want to be extra sure now i have spent 420.

Has anyone had any problems with the 24wmgx3? res issues? Dead Pixels...etc etc...

Honestly none here, perfect screen no dead pixels and a nice even backlight, very happy with mine!

Tbh mate even if it's open surely it won't matter? have you tested it out? NEC warranty is about the best I have ever come across

I purchased a 20WGMX2 3 years ago, the USB ports stopped working, last month I called NEC who said they would send me a new one out and collect my old one a day or two later, they had stopped making mine so they upgraded me for free to the 24WMGX3

I'd say you have nothing to lose by taking it out of the box and trying it if its been opened already, just remember how it all went back in :)

Also NEC don't care about the box contents, they ask you to put your monitor in the box of the new one they send out, the cables etc don't matter so much (if you swap with them ofc)
 
I'd also vote for the T240, I have the slightly larger T260 and am just about to buy it a another one to keep it company.
 
i wanted to return my T260 but OCUK was having none of it...now im selling it cos its to big and uncomfortable to use...i wont be buying form OCUK in the future now, i mean i had just spent 2k Plus with them. : ( :( their loss

but you will be fine with what you have trust me, gonna get a 22" or a 24" cos i find the text and clarity on my T260 to fuzzy.
