Hello, me again.

My system was built in summer 2011, so it's getting on a bit. It's currently:

Intel i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz
MSI P67A-GD53 Mobo
Powercolour R9 280X 3gb
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey (4x4gb; 16gb total)
Corsair HX 750w PSU
1x WD Caviar Green 2gb HDD
Dell 23" U2311H Ultrasharp monitor

I fairly recently upgraded the GFX which helped a lot with games. Im not getting any gaming slow down but i'm only gaming at 1920x1080 on a 23".

Windows however takes an absolute age to get up and running.

Is it worth doing a full rebuild? I'd rather not to be honest. I was thinking maybe a 120gb SSD for the OS and a few key programs (photoshop etc)?

I wouldn't mind going for a 27" Monitor, is that 1440? Would the rig handle that ok?

I would say the only weak spots are the GPU and lack of a SSD. A SSD with a fresh install of windows will speed things up nicely. I would say look at 240Gb or more though. I found a 120Gb SSD just wasn't big enough and changed to a 240Gb. Even that isn't big enough and I have another 250Gb SSD just for my Steam games and hopefully will be picking up a 1Tb SSD fairly soon to do away with both smaller ones. A bigger monitor with higher res is probably going to need a new GPU.

Yes, definitely get an SSD. I've got one for my OS and one for games. PC is much more responsive with an ssd, even put one in my laptop, couldn't run a pc without one now too used to the speed :D

SSD are fantastic.. Just picked up a 3770K to replace my 2500k from the MM... 2500K still not bad chips but I thought this will see me through til a full refresh but I guess you would need a board replacement for something similar.

I have a similar system to yours i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz, 16 gig mem and a gigabyte p67a chipset board and finally decided to fit an ssd a few months back as i was starting to feel windows was booting/running a bit slow, the differance really is night and day.

Ok thanks guys. I'll get a couple of SSDs and see if that gets me through. Then maybe next year i'll go for a full reboot so i can up that screen size to something epic.
