Do you think it's worth the upgrade or not , im not going to change GPU just now but want to wait to see what happens with the next gen before deciding. I cant max out all games but most are good. It's a 5 year old system excluding GPU which is around when i think about upgrading, Or i might just slap another GPU in or do nothing and buy new tyres for the bike (if i ever get out on it again) :D

System specs

Core I7 5820K
MSI X99A SLI PLUS MS-7885
16GB Team Elite 2400 DDR4
Palit GTX 1070 Ti jet stream
Samsung 850 Evo SSD 250 GB (+ 6TB of other storage)
HP 32" monitor 2560 x 1440

I wouldn't make that move if I were you. With that CPU your rig has enough life in it to wait until AMD's next socket (this year's Ryzen is supposed to be the last on AM4). Laying down £1k+ excluding GPU, I'd want to know I had a reasonable upgrade path, which AM4 has done over its life, but it's beginning to be limited now.

I'd work out what your bottlenecks are in games, I'd be surprised if anything but an extreme minority are CPU bound.

Agree about it being better to wait.
Already Zen3 brings probably ~15% performance increase later this year.
And for gaming there's no sense in 16 cores, unless you want to play two games simultaneously on same CPU.

I agree on keeping what you got and try overclock a bit more. You could even invest lightly in a better cpu cooler if you want better thermals for a better overclock.
