I've installed 2x 256GB Samsung 840s in RAID0 at the weekend, my PC is pretty much 'done' now! One slight annoyance is the time is takes Windows 7 to load. After the 'Starting Windows' animation has finished, my computer doesn't do much for 30 seconds. There's maybe 5 flashes from the SSD, but mostly it's not doing anything. I actually had this before I RAIDed on my previous SSD too.

I do remember that before I installed anything the first few boot(s) Windows finished loading before the animation finished animating :) so I guess something messed up..

I'm tempted to reinstall Windows again. I read that sometimes AHCI doesn't install correctly if hot swapping isn't enabled. Could anyone confirm this?

I only just found out how to enable hot swapping in bios, I've enabled it now, but none of my drives are displayed in the 'safely remove hardware' list - which maybe suggests I need to reinstall Windows with them enabled.

Test it out on another hard drive
Install the os and add drivers
That sounds like a driver problem
As safely remove hardware is concerned i do not see relevance between them
You need a cipset driver for it to work

Yeah, it's just reinstalling Windows/getting everything back to how it was is such a chore. Although I'm getting quicker at it!

Do I need to install RAID drivers from a USB stick before installing Windows? I did this last time. I guess I could try without and when it goes mammary glands up I'll know that I needed them :) Or the older drivers on the Windows DVD won't have TRIM until I install newer ones?

Install Windows, install chipset, reboot and see I guess..

windows 7 does not recognise SSD out of the box. I have to keep a disk with the revo drivers on it with the media just in case.

I have seen general problems with boot sequence, drive recognition and drive stability on my old mobo with win7. As such I am looking to change the mobo as I have probably "sweated" it for too long. Win 7 is not great at 2 or 3 levels of backwards compatibility. You can make it work, but there are issues etc. For example I cannot get Win 7 drivers for the on board raid controller.

slow start up, in my experience is about drive contention, basically who is boot, master etc

This isn't a general paradigm, just what I have seen on my kit

I see you have a gigabyte motherboard. Check there is any quick boot option in the bios not sure what its actually called. I seem to remember enabling it once after sn install and it had the opposite effect.

If I get any problems I usually google ' Seans Windows installation guide' the guy has pretty much everything covered along with optimal settings for SSD drives. Give it a look :)

Definately sounds wrong, mine from bios image to desktop aprox 10secs with similar board.
Ive know prevoius pc`s that have done this due to searching usb ports, maybe try to boot with just keyboard/mouse if you have lots of usb devices.
