Going to re activate my wow account soon, only problem is i remember nothing of what happened when i used to play it.

I played up until cata, didnt even finish it. So i have two and a half expansions to play and catch up.

I feel like i should just start a whole new character and play from the beginning, is there any point in doing this?

When i use to play i found it really hard to understand the whole story, so this made it confusing and unjoyable.

Anyone else in this position? I think my rogue was at level 80 so am i better off continuing with him even though i have no bearing of the story and whats to come. Or, should i start a new character?

Do you actually care and want to learn about the story? Personally I don't care about it so I would just go with the rogue if you liked the class, if you actually care about the lore then there are plenty of books you can read or just spend a few hours on the wiki to catch up.

I've started from scratch despite having about 5 80s (didn't play MoP) just want to get used to it all again. Each to their own though :)

It really doesn't take long to level if you have a semblance of an idea of what you're doing. I started an alt on 6.0.2 patch day and i'm currently L77 despite working 40-45 hours a week and raiding on my main.

If you care about the lore you could try something like this:

If you haven't played since Cataclysm then it might be worth starting again as most of the zones and quests are different, it depends if you enjoy the levelling experience or just the end-game.

I too recently re-subbed and whilst I'm not too bothered about the story (not trollin' but it's not exactly the best) I was more concerned with ttrying to relearn rotations and what not.
I played a lot heroic raids on my main but yet when I restarted him the majority of his bar had disappeared as a lot of skills had changed or been tweaked.

It's actually fairly hard to find a definitive source on what to do now as any Google searches will always bring up old content (one of the problems of playing a 10 year old game :)).

I did find this site a nice precis of things to be doing:

Re-subbed myself, leveled my Druid to 90 within a couple of days - already decked out with Siege of Org stuff, last time I played was 3 years ago. They have a looking for raid finder now, so easy to get stuff.

I'll be reactivating my account too, seems this game has a hold on lots of people haha. Havn't played since cata. And only really played high rated arena etc.

Pandaria has a very good story telling quest line in each zone so I'd just continue from where you left off. Everything before mists of pandaria is so quick to level through I doubt you'd experience the storyline anyway for those expansions.

If you want a lore "top up", go check out nobbel's channel on YouTube as he explains pretty much all avenues of lore and most characters in the game in a series of nice and short videos.

Definitely worth starting again. You can instance all the way to 80 and then quest or just quest. Silverpine and Hillsbrad are amazing quest areas (Horde) nowadays so I'd quest if I were you.

I was one of the folk who used to skip the story completely, skipped quest text and just got on with the rush to max level.

Then i said to myself the next alt that i level im actually gonna read the stuff and try to do loremaster while im doing it :)

I was vaguely aware of story from the old Warcraft 3 games but for me personally it added so much depth to a game i was already heavily invested in. It isnt for everyone but if your bored sometime its really worth investing some time in the lore.

Little quest chains like this just go completely unnoticed :)

Started again last week thanks to some free game time from Chinese hackers (got an email my account was comprised, got it back along with the rest of the months subscription they paid for!!!). Started a new character (Monk), even this many years on, no other MMO touches it IMO. Will likely get the expansion now and play it up till and over xmas.

Yes i think ill start a new class, think it will be fun to start all over again. Try and pay attention to the story this time. I was on Vek-Nilesh, that server was pretty empty during my time there, I'm going to go on a more populated server. Hopefully wont be in queue for battlegrounds and dungeons for long.

Just checked my e-mails and i have free game time until 5th of November :D **

Now to download the massive game.

**It is a legit e-mail, be careful of hackers.
