Just ordered WOW (not with Burning Crusade).

Totally upto date with the lore having completed all of the previous Warcraft games, such that i have decided to join an RP server.

Want to see if i can get into it before purchasing the further expansions such as Burning Crusade and then Lich King.

What exactly do you NOT get with the standard flavour of WOW.

I know the level cap is 60 and you cant go to Outland but is there anything else i should know that would make the game annoying to not have on my way to the standard flavour level cap?

No Blood Elves and Denari (or something)

Its possible to get the box set with both and guides for both for £15, I would get that personally if you can change your order.

Can't play as a Blood Elf or Draenei and I think that's about it. It might also not let you choose Jewelcrafting though I'm not sure and I think you'll be limited to 300 skill for most crafts as most of the trainers for more are in Outland.

For the cost i woulda just bought burning crusade too. I dont think theres many people who can start wow and then quit it right away :)

im going to wait to start until the new patch is out.

apparently there are new graphic improvements, will these be for all versions of wow?

The WotLK pre-patch is due out on the 15th October so not long now. As far as I'm aware the graphics improvements will apply to all versions. I would advise getting installed and all patched upto date as you'll probably need a lot of patches and also the next patch is likely to be a big one.

1-60 pre Burning Crusade was the better part of the game, take your time and try to spend some time between level 55 and 60 in Black Rock Mountain. You will need a party of 5 to do the dungen in there and about 4 hours at a time to. It will be time well spent just seeing them dungens.

Edit. Try and keep the group around your level.

The new patch doesn't really bring anything worth waiting for for a new player. The low level game is gonna be exactly the same. The only graphical improvement I know of is the new shadow effects, and currently in the patch beta they are bugged and cause massive framerate loss.

Oh wait, they'll be a new profession in the next patch - Inscription, but you can always pick it up when the patch comes out.

thats why ive only ordered the standard version.....to drill that to death content wise then move on to burning crusade....do the same there then get on to WOTLK.

bit lame i wont be able to get to the blood elf starting area but when im finished with the vanilla wow ill probably level an elf through that starting zone.

when this new patch is out for wotlk, will there be any additional content added then that will not be available to me?

gonna make four chars:

Human Paladin
Night Elf Druid

Undead Warlock
Orc Shaman or Hunter

that should give me a wide variety of perspectives to play the game from.

There's no downside to getting the expansion and there's no reason to wait at level 60 as you can't experience the old raid content anymore (unless you get some level 70s to run you through, but there's no challenge then).

Paladin, Shaman and Druids are all support classes and can do a bit of every thing but not as good as the pure classes. IMO only pick one of them.

Try Hunter, Warlock, Warrior and one support class.

the reason ive only bought wow vanilla is cos im not paying for content i cant even do yet.

as for classes:-

Paladin- favorite class due to storyline in Warcraft 3

Druid- wanna be a wise old fart like Malfurion

Warlock- great lore from Warcraft 1&2 plus they look damn fun to play

Hunter- probably will be a hunter considering im not greatly keen on being a shaman

Not sure about being a warrior as they have really restrictive abilities in healing themselves, and considering im going to do a LARGE amount of solo play to get to 60 i can see it being painful me being that class.

i think the best class to play lore wise would be the druid some nice quest lines, paladins can get pretty boring to level rogue tho can be pretty fun :)

just finished leveling my prest for wotlk wasent to bad seems a lot of people are leveling alts for wotlk so wont be to hard to find groupes

Don't roll a Warrior unless you want painful leveling, they are by far the worst class to level as.

Even my Warrior (alt, twinked out) leveling to 60 was crap.

60-70 was easy though, I had raiding gear back then which was a major advantage.
