Startup Beep

Well this has just started to happen.
I turn pc on and it comes on for 5 secs then restarts. It will do this 3 or more times without me touching it then it just runs no display and not loading into windows.
Sometimes I may get three beeps(beeep beeep beeep) then it restarts. I can only get it to come on when it goes into the long running stage then i press power off
button leave for a min turn on then it come on fine.
Anyone know what up??? :confused:

Look in your mobo manual for beep codes. Could be memory related.

You need to know the manufacturer of your BIOS. Then head off to www.bioscentral.com to find out what those codes mean.

3 Beeps generally means memory error.

And that's on practically any board I have tested. Yes 'some' are different but it's unlikely.

Reseat your RAM (take it out of the slot and put it back in) then turn the system on. If you get the same issue, take all the RAM out, put ONE stick in at a time, in every slot, untill you find out if any of your RAM sticks make the system boot.

If none of your RAM sticks make the system boot, I would try and find a friend or something with some RAM / try and source some from somewhere that are definetly working, in order to make sure your motherboard isn't faulty or not.

**EDIT**

Just re-read your post...So sometimes the system is booting up fine? If that's the case, you could try and run memtest on the RAM sticks individually, and see if either of them fail that perhaps?

no generally if the case is interfering i.e.some muppet forgot to put the correct mobo screws in then it shorts it

i found this out lol.

i would guess at memory codes too. take out all the memory and try 1 stick in a slot, start, if it works great if it doesnt try a different slot. if none work i would guess your memory if duff.

bear in mind, depending on the set-up, it may also mean that the memory controller on the CPU has failed.. as I found out to my cost recently.

Whats this because i have noticed my pc only starts when the fan is moving.

From what is sounds like its a memory error of some kind thats what the 3 beeps mean on any system

?? I think you are getting confussed with the HSF. If this fails you will have a fried chip (mmm chips)! - sorry..

No the memory controller on some systems are built into the CPU. If this fails then although the system reports a RAM failure, it could be the CPU has failed. If youhave eliminated all possibility that the memory has failed, then try seating one stick in each bank at a time. i.e. a working memory stick in bank A then B etc.. How old is this system.

your processor is most likely fine, you should try your RAM in a different machine to make sure its fine, if it is, then you could have something wrong with your motherboard.

.. as I said.. bear in mind that if it's not the memory (as you have said it's not) it could be either the motherboard or the controller on the CPU

Trying the RAM in a different machine is a good idea.
