Startup problems on a new build

Hello all, i'm back, although I wish it could be entirely good news.

I have had a issue with my sandybridge asus motherboard and my new build, as suggested to me by this forum a few days ago. After checking many sources and etc, I finally had the PC together and running. However, it doesn't really run :)

Firstly, my pc began smoking when I plugged it in and turned it on. Being a novice at a build, I read a few posts and some people mentioned it was a cpu issue, and I needed to reapply the fan. After also seeing the fan was the wrong way round (oops) I fixed it back in, corrected my mistake with the new thermal grease coating and started it up without the side on. I began to get two short beeps on my mobo on startup. I tried swapping RAM around and etc, and after trying it without the crossfire setup, it turned into a single continuous beep with doesn't end. I can't find a definitive answer to this though, and don't know why it is doing it.

A final note to mention is my cpu cooler (asaka venom) doesn't spin at all yet, the front led and fan on my coolermaster case do start though and my optical drive opens and closes fine.

Any suggestions to the issue would be much appreciated, and I will leave a full unplug/reinstall to my final option as I spent two evenings doing this and it has given me some bad-ass headaches :)

Thanks to all,
Ollie

that would be a valid explanation but i can't see that as necessarily correct because I thought of this, plugged the stock cpu fan into the board and that didnt spin at all either. halp?

*edit* yes the cable was and still is connected, i've just moved it to my study for now so I'll have to try fixes tomorrow :)

I've had a look to check for burn marks before I had to go and there aren't any around the cpu fan port, i'll spend time later checking it more thoroughly but i need to go for the day
rma looks likely though, damnit :(
