Hello ladies and gents,

not posted in the serious section of OcUK for a while but my brother's needing some help.

Basically the graphics card decided to die, we took that out and put another one in, and we're getting a weird startup repair message thing. It says something along the lines of 'attempting to repair' and gives us a load of options, none of which fancy working.

Presumably this can be solved fairly easily or am I gonna have to get someone more able than me?

Ta,

Stew.

It is likely that the old graphics card drivers are causing an issue. You should be able to enter safe mode and remove them. To enter safe mode just tap f8 as the BIOS hands over to windows.

Okey cokey thanks I'll try that tomorrow.

Sorry for the vague description, getting a pretty limited amount of info from my brother.

Right, tried starting it up in safe mode and still getting Startup Repair coming up.

It Searches for Problems for a brief period then up pops a 'Startup Repair cannot repair this problem automatically'. Then I get an option asking whether I want to send information to to Microsoft or not, and when that's closed it's just an option to either Cancel, which restarts, or Finish, which shuts it down.

Halp :(

If you can't get it to load into safe mode then most likely you'll need to run startup repair off the windows disc or a repair install.
