Just wanted to know what ways there are of tweaking the startup for each individual account on a comp running Win XP Pro. As one of the accounts I have requires nothing to be started up, how can I get programs to startup when signing into one account and not another?

Thanks

if they can be manually started just copy a shortcut to them into the C:\Documents and Settings\*usersname*\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder

It's about the simplest way of doing it, some programs startup with the system though and you might not be able to do this with them.

Thanks. At the moment the account has no items in startup yet loads of programs (that I use on another account) are starting up, wasting time. Any idea how I can disable those from starting up for this account?

start - run - msconfig, press ok

goto startup tab, remove any items you don't want to start

same goes for services, tick hide ALL MS services, and leave the relevant services ticked

Does this only effect the account concerned, or all accounts on the system?

when your in msconfig and looking at the startup items you'll see the terms

HKLM and HKLU these basically mean "local machine" (startup for all users) and "local user" (starts up only for that user your logged in as)

tells you if it effects just one user or them all.

services wise I think they effect all users on that PC, I could be wrong though :D
