I'm considering buying this, but if I remember correctly, the reviews upon release were pretty poor. Have things improved since and is it worth getting purely for the single player experience? Cheers.

I am not sure how much this game has improved but when I played it it was quite and frustrating experience honestly, very buggy and poor performance.

These issues may have been addressed by now?

I was considering getting this too until I found out it only runs under Windows 10. My gaming rig is running 8.1 unfortunately.

I played it on release and while there were some bugs I didn't come across anything game breaking. I might install it again and play through DLCs.

Its awful. If you manage to get it installed after several attempts. I am a big fan of SOD1 and this was a big disappointment. It doesnt build upon the original game and there is too much repetitive go A then B and back to A. Some of the DLC on SOD1 was really good too. I might revisit it if it goes on Steam but its not worth the money I paid. Quite often you blow up some zombies only to see there remains just hang there in the air. There is also a road block near the first home base where army zombies patrol and after you clear them out for the umpteenth time you can get through it okay after then except you drive through then suddenly a zombie will appear in front of the car from nowhere like Mr Ben. Its the lazy bugs that annoy.

If you absolutely must try it, get Game Pass for £1 and try it on that. You'll have it for a month. I tried it for a few hours and it's not for me. It's just a boring quest simulator, go here, do that, fetch this, someone needs this, get it for them, come back, face an attack. It's quite boring really.

Thanks for the info. I'll pass on it until a time comes when it's heavily discounted. Is the first one any better? I might get that instead.

I also played SOD1 a lot despite the frustrating issues but SOD2 didn't improve it much just a bit better graphics. I'll come back to it again sometime but there's too many other good games to bother with it currently.

SOD1 is pretty good, SOD1 Year One is SOD1 with better graphics but more bugs. DLC Breakdown in SOD1 as a survival game without the story, DLC Lifeline is set in a city and involves you rescuing people and setting up a base and building it up and surviving waves of Zombies who attack every so often. Lifeline was my favourite loved it some of the traps you could set led to some great set pieces. Also some great mods for it like having the characters from the Walking Dead in it.

SOD2 is just sodding pants.

I thought SOD 2 was good with the exception of the coop, completely broken with my partner dropping out 24/7, so stopped playing. The actual gameplay seemed fine to me, more of the same.

I thought SoD was really good. I think I bought it on sale though for about £4; that was before the Year One edition came out. Might be worth getting in the next Steam sale if it's got a good discount. I wouldn't pay full price for it though, given Undead Labs managed to update the game with nicer graphics, but at the same time didn't address bugs and given some people's accounts, somehow managed to increase the amount of bugs. If it's on sale for cheap, it's a fun game.

I'll most likely get SoD2 when it's cheap on Steam, assuming the co-op mode works. Was mostly looking forward to a full featured co-op mode with friends, but it looks to be half baked. No idea though, if they have sorted out the problems Omaeka experienced with co-op. If not, I'll probably not bother with it.

Actually installed this using the MS game pass, having heard so much about the first one but never got round to play it.

Ill be honest bugs so far not seen many at all. Performance is pretty good im playing at 1440p on a gtx 1070 and a sandybidge 'i5' 99% of the time its rany really well.

I've been bored stiff of gaming for ages nnot really getting into much... If the 1st one is better I really must pick that up, as im really enjoying this game.

I'd forgot about this. I installed it via the MS game pass. Even though it was essentially free, I still couldn't be bothered to play it beyond the first hour. Dreadful.

Same, I played the pc version with gamepass and it was rubbish. Really uninspired and didn't grab my attention like the first one did. Played for a couple of hours hoping it would improve, it didn't so I uninstalled it.

I went back to this recently couldn't get on with it. So I played the Heartland DLC which is free with the game pass and it's set in the same map as the first game but after the story in the first where familiar locations are more decayed and has a new story. Played it all the way through to the end! Some of the mutated zombies are a right pain like the juganaut but quite enjoyed it. Just goes to show the main story is pants then along comes dlc set in the first game and at least it has some playability again!

I'd hardly call 8.1 naff in comparison to W10.:cool::D But each to his own. I'm dual booting 8.1 and W10 now so I *might* give this a whirl at some point in the future.
