I've just bought a £700 computer and there was one product missing from my delivery and that was the anti-static wristband! I dont know about you, but I'm a impatient guy and for me waiting 5 months to build this thing then adding another few days is very very frustrating and i need this rig up and running for this weekend:eek:! So I'm asking you guys do you know any other technique in discharging static from your body besides using a anti-static wristband?
Thanks

Sure, put the PSU in the case, plug your PSU in and don't turn it on, touch the case and you should be earthed. Other than that most radiators are earthed that I've seen so just touch one of them and you should be earthed as well.

In general it probably doesn't matter that much unless you have a fondness for nylon and running about carpets in socks.

i have not had a problem with out anti static stuff tbh just tap on metal before u touch anything

Yeah when I made my latest comp I just touch the radiator but make sure you touch an unpainted area( don't know if it makes a difference but I don't want to take a chance) - eg the pipe attached to it , that's what I do.

:D

Great! thanks guys I'm gonna do it, i dont have any fondness of nylon! so im gonna go for it! thanks again for the quick responses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

asd is fairly rare. touch the case while your installing it and handkle the backplate of gfx cards, sound cards ect. hold components such as expansion cards, mobos, cpus, ram modules by their edge, that would be the places without metal, not the edge that would go in a socket.

like many people i dont use asd equipment for my personal hardware or any of the stuff i handle in work. the armed forces are rather keen on it though..

Just to say guys the build went extremely well booted up first time without any problems and no anti static wristband used :D. I was expecting lots of problems on my first build but i was suprised how smooth it went. Now to overclock this baby

Thanks

While on the subject, I thought this might humour you all........

My mate was cleaning his comp in September last year. He took it into the kitchen as he knew there would be more space and less 'static' as the floor was tiled. Whilst having his case open and parts scattered along the kitchen worktop, he pulled out his brand new £380 XFX 8800GTX so he could get the compressed gas in and around the motherboard.

As there was no immediate room on the worktop, he passed his brand new and proud GTX to his wife to hold for a second while he made some more space. As he made space for the fine GFX Card he was so glad to have, he turned round to find his wife holding the card with left hand clamped over it, capacitors touching & all. His face suddenly turned a pale grey as she opened the tumble dryer door with her right hand and placed her hand in only to pull out a BIG NYLON CARDIGAN.

"Ouch" she says and turns to him to say she had just had a 'shock' go through her hand.

He immedialtely snatched the card out of her hands like a Vulture and quickly put all the parts back together like a speed freak on Krypton Factor. His initial thoughts of what had happened to the card were in fact brought to reality.

Yes, his brand new XFX 8800GTX 768mb Card had in fact been fried

Is there a lesson to be learned? Yes!

When at home and you have your prize possession in pieces, always make your woman wear a labrotary suit :D

He did manage to blag the retailer he bought it off to get a replacement and always does his work on his pc in the bedroom now.

LOL - expensive mistake.

But yeah, i go with semi-pro's method of leaving the PSU plugged in whilst working on a PC. Obviously i turn it off at the wall.

If that's true that's absolutely classic :D:D:D

Well i normally plug the PSU into mobo and have it switched off then have cardboard on the floor and touch the case or radiator every now and then works for me :D

i just plug the psu in and don't bother with my anti-static wristband, i've build 5 systems so far, all are working fine and there were no "sparks" when i was building them, just don't wear socks on your carpet, put some slippers or shoes on:)

eyah psu pluged in but not on. also basic things like dont build ity on carpet floor wearing nylon socks lol i tend to do mine on kitchen table has tiled floor and radiator behind it :) for grabbing
