Static discharge pc restarts?

Hi all.

Before I go taking my pc about to find out what is going I wonder if anyone with my knowledge could help me out.

What happens is some times if I touch my computer case my pc will restart.

I have the Cooler Master CM-690 II and I was thinking one of the wires inside was maybe rubbing against the side panel causing the static to happen?

So I was going to take all the components out and check and tape up any wires that are close to metal on the case if that will help.

Any one had this happen to them before?

On a more serious note, try moving your case's header wires to see if the problem persists.

lol happens when my gf does it as well I must have got something from her lol :O

I did not even think about the header wires I take a look at them first thanks.

Is it a touch, or a tap/knock on the case?

A static charge shouldn't have any affect on the PC power at all. More like an iffy power button. Try disconnecting the switch from the mobo, see if the problem goes away.

I wish the mute button doesn't work

I checked the cables reseated them and see what happens now.

@mushtafa I only have to brush against the case for it to restart the pc sometimes.

Could be a grounding issue, is the motherboard, or anything touching the metal on the case at all?

You've possibly shorted your board against the case. Rebuild it and make sure to use standoffs and double check all wiring.

Remove the motherboard.

Check that you don't have any extra case stand-offs that are fouling with the base of the motherboard. They can usually be unscrewed.

^Count the number of holes on the board, and count the number of stand-offs.

When fitting the motherboard, half tighten all the motherboard screws so it lines up nicely, then tighten them all up (not excessively)
