So the relevant bits of my LAN are an Asus RT-AC86U (with Merlin firmware), Netgear GS110EMX switch and Asustor AS5104T NAS. The NAS is dual linked to the switch; the switch is set for static LAG and the NAS is set to Round-robin. I've set static DHCP assignments on the router for both NAS ports but only one responds to ping, the other being unreachable. Presumably the switch is using the one address across the two ports in the LAG and I can just delete the second reservation?

My so-called career was mainly end user and server support so this level of networking is alien to me. Are there any decent resources to read about this?

No, don’t delete the second reservation. It’s in use even if you can’t do anything with it.
