My ISP does not offer a static IP address. I have just had a dvr fitted and i was told there is a way to get a static ip address?

Any way of doing this? because i was told there were some free web sites that offer some software to do this?

Thanks
Dave

dyndns.org
no-ip.com

These are dynamic dns services, basically you run a client on your computer which updates their servers telling if and what your new ip address is in the circumstance that it has changed, this is then linked to a web address blah.dyndns.com for example and you just connect to that.

You could also check your modem's web interface or manual to see if it has the capability to update a dynamic DNS service with its current IP. Assuming the PVR is remotely configurable this saves you from having the PC running.
